A loud alarm rang through the air.
"What is going on?!" Levi asked.
Flegel checked his device.
"Shit!" he exclaimed.
"Code red, code red!"
Levi looked at him, concerned.
"WHAT IS HAPPENING?" he demanded.
"There's been an accident in Hanji's lab!" Flegel said.
Without a thought, Levi raced off. He knew exactly where her lab was.
----------
Smoke slipped out from the lab. Levi kicked the door in and rushed inside.
"Hanji?! Hanji, where are you?!" He called.
A cough grabbed his attention. There was Hanji, laying on the ground behind her desk. Levi rushed over to her.
"Hanji! Are you...." He couldn't finish the sentence.
Her left eye was bleeding badly, glass shards having sliced deep into it, some even remained embedded in and around it. A large chunk of glass had pierced her right shoulder as well.
"L-Levi?" Hanji asked.
Her glasses were gone so she was having a hard time seeing who was with her.
"It's me," Levi replied taking her hand.
He knew Hanji was in immense pain, her expression showed it. Flegel and the others appeared.
"GET AN AMBULANCE CALLED." Levi yelled.
"It's on the way now," Nifa said.
No one moved into the room, it was still unknown what happened. Levi sat with Hanji, holding her gently.
"I-I can't see Levi..." Hanji said, her voice trembling.
"Shhh, everything will be all right," Levi replied gently stroking her cheek.
"You're going to be okay Hanji, I've got you."
She tightly gripped his hand.
"Paramedics are on the way, just hang on till then," Levi said.
He was doing his best to keep her calm.
----------
"This is a salve you will need to apply to her wounds twice a day for a week," the doctor said.
"This is also a kit that contains a bunch of sterile bandaging and medical gauze as well as medical tape."
"Thank you," Levi replied.
"Don't forget to have her take the pain medication," the doctor said.
Levi nodded.
"I...I want to go home now Levi..." Hanji said.
"We are, I promise," Levi replied.
He carried Hanji to the car. It was a quiet drive home, Levi didn't really know what to say. Only sound was a soft sniffling. Levi knew Hanji was crying but he didn't know what to tell her to help her feel better. Once home, Levi helped Hanji out of the car. She stumbled around trying to get her bearings.
"Let me..." Levi said reaching for her.
Hanji pushed him away.
"I-I'm fine!" she snapped.
Levi sighed.
"I...I'm gonna head to b-bed," Hanji muttered.
She quietly headed off to bed. She and Levi had separate rooms but often shared Levi's room. This time, she went to her own room, locking the door. Levi let her be. She had a lot to process and deal with. It'd been an hour or so. Not a sound had come from Hanji's room. Levi walked to her door. Soft crying came from behind the door.
"Hanji?" Levi said knocking.
"Zoe, are you asleep?"
No answer but he could still here the crying.
"Hey...I know it's been a really hard day, but I'm always here for you Zoe," Levi said.
"I'll be here if you need me, just let me know."
There was no response. Levi sighed. He headed to the kitchen.
