Chapter 10: Surprise

*Nine Days Later*

“If you would be so kind as to not actually touch my leg again, I would kindly appreciate it.” I said to Charlie who was trying to get some drawing done while in the back of the car. I was thinking over my decision to not sit up front with Jesse, regretting it a billion times over, and sighed. Ever since he’d kissed me, we haven’t had the time to talk and even being next to him was awkward. Jake would still glare at him from time to time when he stood too close or brushed against me by accident though, which was insanely hilarious.

Speaking of Jake, he was in the other car, currently being tortured and questioned by my other two best friends. Ryan and Lauren had practically forced him into the car with them when we were in the parking lot at his moms’ hotel that she had placed in Delaware. Yeah, we had successfully made it to the east coast and were on our way to my grandparent’s house. It only takes about 3 hours to get there so we were all pretty anxious, choosing to leave at three instead of twelve to make it there right on time for dinner.

Nothing interesting happened in these few days. I’m still acting like a ‘sex deprived she-wolf’ in the words of Lauren around Jake. It’s not even that though, he just likes to have his hands on me and who am I to deny it? Lauren actually has decided that she wants to become some type of matchmaking talk show host. Honestly, the position was perfect for her because those relationships rarely if ever work out and if Jake and I are an example, they really need her there. Jesse and Ryan have decided that they wanted to become a real couple, giving Jesse no excuse but to call his parents and tell them the truth. Of course, he’s a little wimp and settled for waiting until we see them in a couple of days to reveal the truth.

Charlie is the only one who is exactly the same on account of this trip. He loved anything artistic when he was back home and that passion has only seemed to deepen as he continued to place his poster on my leg.

“I’m sorry. You should have sat up front and then you wouldn’t have this problem.” He said sassily, giving me a pointed stare that made me let out another sigh. I knew I would have to face the guy at some point, I mean, he is kind of one of my best friends. In an act of courage, I climbed over the divider and plopped into the seat next to Jesse. He seemed startled at my actions, glancing at me with a scared look on his face briefly before turning to the road. I smiled at him, my form of attempt to get rid of the awkwardness though I don’t think it worked.

“Are we finally gonna do this?” He asked me, gazing at the road in front of us and tightening his grip on the steering wheel. I shrugged before realizing that he didn’t see it.

I sighed softly, “Look. You are one of my best friends and I don’t want things to really be this weird between us. I know your meaning behind the kiss but I still need some type of closure.” I told him.

“Look. I really miss the way things used to be. This shouldn’t have changed the way we act around each other. Why can’t we just forget it and move on. Obviously, I’m not going to try and hit on you again; I have a boyfriend.” He told me, the brightest smile appearing when he mentioned Ryan. I giggled at that; he seems much happier now.

“Fine. Let’s just forget it happened then. Do you at least regret causing all that drama?” I asked him.

“Oh of course. Jake practically killed me when we talked about it. Yeah, I know, he was calm around you but he was not having it with me. He was seriously so pissed that I stole your first kiss so for that I do apologize. You guys were so close already I just assumed that you’d kissed before.” He told me, glancing slightly to check that I was listening to him. A deep blush appeared on my cheeks at the thought. If he assumed that then I know everyone else probably did too.
