“What do you mean we’re too young to check in here? This is ridiculous!” Lauren all but screamed at the man at the counter. He gave her a bored look while we all stood behind her on edge. Lauren isn’t really used to not getting her way so we were all waiting to see what was about to happen.
“Miss. You cannot check into this hotel if you are not eighteen. Clearly you’re not eighteen so either you leave or we escort you out.” The man said, putting his nose up and making a movement to grab the phone.
“No! That’s not necessary! We’re leaving now. Thank you for your wonderful service. We’ll be sure to tell everyone we know how welcoming and supportive you were, with allowing 5 children with loads of cash to check into your hotel.” I said to him, flipping my hair and hauling Lauren with my out the door. I heard her give a huff and turn around, ready to go back in and give him another piece of her mind. Charlie grabbed her and lifter her so she was on the other side of him, Jake and Jesse blocking her. She let out a grunt of frustration and I giggled.
“What exactly is funny Kat? We have nowhere to stay now because the ones with casinos definitely won’t let us in.” She said, a permanent scowl placed onto her face as she spat out each word. I couldn’t help but laugh a little more. How could I have not thought of it before? I took out my phone, a giant grin on my face as I heard her voice echo through the phone.
“Hey! Can you tell your mom that we’re in Vegas as a part of that little road trip that I told you about. Yeah, okay we’ll be there in like five!” I said to the person on the other end and grabbed my bags. I headed to Jesse’s car, all of them following and questioning me.
“Who was on the phone?” Jake said to me while I was placing my luggage in the boot. I smiled at him, a secretive grin on my face as I put the address in the GPS. I gave it to Lauren and pretty soon we pulled up into the most massive hotel I had ever seen. There were bright lights everywhere and a giant fountain in the center. I laughed at the awe on Jesse’s face and got out once we reached the front.
Instantly I was wrapped in a hug that I immediately returned. I came face to face with my book club buddy that I had met when my parents forced me to go out and be more social. Ryan Regal was the son of the wealthiest parents I’d ever met. They pretty much ran America and were good friends with my parents. I remembered the conversation we had when he told me he was moving to Vegas to live in the new hotel his mother owned and that I would visit him when we got here.
“Hi Ry!” I said into his neck while he pulled me closer. Trust me, this friendship we had was completely platonic. He told me on the first day that he was gay and I squealed with delight. Who doesn’t love a gay guy as a friend? He just recently broke up with his boyfriend of four months and was always out partying, telling me of his escapades the next day on the phone. He pulled me back and examined me before smiling.
“Kitty! How are you, love?” He asked making me giggle. He was the type to pick up the culture that was present wherever he went, the most recent being his trip to England last week. He tried so hard to get me to come with him to celebrate the New Year and I was going to go but my parents would have killed me.
“These are the friends that I’m always talking about. Lauren, Charlie, Jesse and Jake this is my book club friend that I’ve mentioned a couple of times, Ryan Regal. His mom owns the hotel.” I said smiling and gesturing to the massive work of art we were stood in front of.
“Lovely to meet you all! Kitty here always talks about you guys!” He said with a smile, looking at Jesse a little longer than usual. I gave him a look to let him know that Jesse was straight and he smirked at me. I laughed at his eagerness and looked at everyone else. Lauren was smiling wide, her excitement to stay here obvious while Charlie was focused on the fountain, probably wanting to take pictures of it. Jesse was staring at the ground by Ryan’s feet and Jake was full on glaring at Ryan. I hit his shoulder not so subtly and he looked at me guiltily.
