After my little run in with Simon I head to my first class, Magikal Studies. It's one of my least favorite classes but I get good grades in it. You can't have the most famous mage to be girlfriend getting fail grades. I open the door to the classroom when I remember that I have this class with Simon and Penelope. It's are only class we have together as a group, so there always plotting or scheming against Baz, hopping I'll join in. I don't. I shake my head to clear my thoughts and step inside and take a seat at a desk in the back. Thankfully they're not here yet, so most of the seats are open. I pull out the seat and put my bags down by my chair. Just then I see the door open with a creak. I look to see who walked in and it's not to my surprise that it's Penelope and Simon.
"Oh, there she is, look" Penelope says loudly to Simon as she grabs his hand and starts speed walking towards the seats next to me. I scoot over automatically, but then remember that me and Simon are on good terms. I grin at him and he returns the smile. They put their bags down and sit down in a hurry, because class is about to start.
"Hullo class, welcome to the new year!" A short, bald man says happily while writing our class schedule on the white board. "This year is going to be great, or should I say jolly good!"Penelope looks exited, she always looks exited when magic is in the conversation. She loves it, so does Simon, but for me it's the epitome of my existence. Simon has to love magic, because he needs it to survive this world that choose him.
"Lets get started!" My teacher says with an enthusiastic smile.
Right when he starts talking I hear Simon and Penelope start whispering behind me. I catch some familiar words like, "Bloody, Simon," and "Baz" and "secret meting." Hopefully they don't drag me into this scheme that they're planing. I forget to listen to the teachers lecture and try to understand what he's saying. It just sounds like a bunch of blah's.
"Agatha!" says and urgent whisper behind me. I pretend I can't hear her.
"Agathaaaa," I hear Penelope say under her breath, drawing out the a in my name. I give in and turn around to face her and Simon. "Yes?" I finally say, with an annoyed face.
"Secret Meeting, tonight in Simons room!"
"We can't go in the boys dorms, you know that" I hiss at her, about to turn my shoulder before she grabs it.
"It doesn't matter, just come, we need to talk!"Penelope says through her teeth.
"About what?" I reply.
" Uh, about the Mage, and Baz, and vampire stuff! No thanks I say in my mind, about to turn around to focus on class until I see Simons face. He looks deflated and disappointed. His golden blond hair is extra curly today, probably from the street of having to deal with Baz. "uhhh fine, but you can't rope me in to these meetings again." I give in, turning around to face the teacher again.
"Yes!" I hear Simon high five Penelope silently. I sigh at them acting like 5 year old and shake my head in an annoyed way. I actually can't be seen in public with these to. But at the same time I wish I had their friendship. Maybe me and Penelope could switch, but I doubt the laws of physics would allow that.
The rest of class goes by in a haze. I take some notes about laws of the Mage world and stuff. After class I heave my bag onto my shoulder and start to head to my next class when I remember that today is a short day.
"Heyyy" Penelope whispers in my ear, wiggling her eyebrows and motioning her finger to follow her, with Simon trailing alone. Oh my god, I try to make a break for it, pretending like I don't know this strange lady that looks likes she's on something, but before I can she grabs my hand and drags me with her.
"You aren't getting away that easily, come on!" She hisses as she drags me toward the door of the hallway. " Help," I whisper to the nearest stranger as Penelope tightens her grip on my wrist.
By the time we get to the boys room Penelope and Simon can see that I'm visibly unhappy. We walk into Simon and Baz's room and I settle my self on Simon's bed. He walks over to me and sits back on his bed. He gives me an unconvincing smile that this isn't a huge waste of time, but I don't smile back.
" Why are we having this meeting?" I question them, trying to find any depth in what were about to do.
"To further our knowledge" I snort. " It would be better if we had something we could write on" she says looking around the room. Then I see Simons eyes light up, that's his idea face. I recognize it, he used to get that look when he was scheming about how to prove that Baz wasn't human. "See what I mean!" Penelope yells, pointing her finger at a bare wall.
"ok then, meting adjourned" I say with lots of snark. Penelope ignores me and continues talking.
"I think that there are three things we need to worry about" Penelope says, writing The Humdrum in mid air. " What are some things we know about The Humdrum?"She asked, looking at me and Simon.
"Well, he looks like me." Im not surprised, of course it would look like Simon. "And he want something from me, I think" Simon continues.
"And we know that he's been quite since June" Penelope points out. I cross my arms and ask, "Isn't the Humdrum still our there, eating magic?"
"Yes" Penelope says, writing notes down in the air. " But I talked to my Dad, and he says that there are less and less holes popping up." She continues.
"We don't know that he eats the magic" Simon also points out. "We don't even know what he does with the magic?"
"Lets stick to what we do know," Penelope says as she writes War with Old Family's in the air with her finger. "I mean, its not a war" I add as she gives me a quick glance. The old family have been fighting with Mages for decades, even though they are Mages too. It's ironic and frankly stupid, but not a "war."
"There have been skirmishes, yeah?" Simon inquires. "And duels" he adds with a look at me. "I huff and exclaim back at Simon. "Yeah well, you can't walk into someones house without reason and not expect a duel or to." Simon looks confused so I explain further. " The Mage has been invading houses looking for dark magic." Simon looks worried and ask's,
"Did they invade your house?" He looks sad at the thought. "He wouldn't" I quickly add. "My fathers on the coven." He looks relived.
