Since he slept for only five hours and had working lunch, he decided to leave the office early. Drove his car home, screamed to the songs on the radio and stopped at a gas station to get some snacks. Celia, the cook, had prepared too much food for his scant crave.
While he was having dinner, alone, in his large dining room, Rose, his housekeeper, walked through the door excusing herself. Since Ruel loved Rose almost as much as his own mother, he invited her to sit with him and to grab a plate. She sat down but refused to get a plate, she was having dinner later that night.
"Ruel, I need to talk to you about something important." By saying that, she was trying to get Ruel to understand the conversation was serious. "Ruel, I have to retire, I can no longer keep working for you." She sweetly smiled at him, trying to ease the news she was giving him. Rose knew her going would affect Ruel severely. She had worked for him since he moved out from his parents house, but knew him since he was a toddler. "I hope you don't get mad at me, but I'm growing older, Ruel. There are a lot of things this job requires that I can't do."
"Of course I'm not mad at you, Rose. I completely understand your decision, I just, I don't know what I'll do without you. I don't think I can trust anyone like I trust you, Rose." She stared at his distressed expression, which reminded her of another known worried face who could be of incredible help that moment.
"You know, Ruel, my neighbour is unemployed at the moment. She was a babysitter of a big family, but they moved to another country; and ever since, she's been looking for a job everywhere. I know you can trust her, she's the sweetest girl you'll ever meet and she's very responsible. If you allow me to, I can give her your number or the office's number and she can give you a call for an interview." Ruel looked at Rose a little confused and concerned. "Ruel, I get that you feel a little apprehensive about new people entering your life, but you can trust me when I tell you this girl, Iris, would be perfect for the job." What Rose didn't tell him is that she also believed Iris would be perfect for his life, too.
"Fine, Rose, you can give her the office's number and we can schedule an interview." Rose always convinced Ruel.

Iris opened the door to her apartment and was greeted by Vanilla, who swung between her legs purring. She took off her shoes stretching her feet and toes. She picked up her cat, playing with her and her paws, she walked to the kitchen ready to prepare something simple for dinner. Rice noodles, carrots, corn, tomato and lettuce turned into a salad. She sat on her well-worn couch and let a deep sigh out. It was an exhausting day. Coffee shops, restaurants, stores, grocery shops, everywhere; but no one was hiring. And looking for a job was even more tiring since Iris had to walk and take the bus anywhere she went, her bike needed a repair as soon as possible.
Her relaxing dinner was interrupted by a knock on the door, which caught her by surprise. She placed her plate on the coffee table and walked over to the door. "Oh, hi Rose! Come in." She let Rose in, her neighbour.
"Look at you! Do you feel okay? You look..." She couldn't finish because of the face Iris gave her.
"I know I look like shit, Rose," she chuckled and walked over to the couch, inviting Rose to sit down with her, "I've been all day long walking around the city looking for a job and handing résumés everywhere."
"Right, that's exactly why I'm here." Iris frowned in her direction. "You know I work as a maid for Ruel, right? I name him frequently." Iris nodded after hearing the name Ruel, she had never personally met him, but Rose almost never shut her mouth about him and his family. "I didn't tell you I was going to make this decision, but I retired. I'm too old for the job, I can barely bend down, and cleaning his huge house it's not easy for me." Iris was definitely surprised about Rose's decision, since she loved working for Ruel (well, she loved Ruel like her son), but still, she understood and thought that Rose was right, she was getting old for the job. "And I told him I knew a beautiful -she winked- young girl was looking for a job. Ruel is not the most open person, it's hard for him to let people in his life, but I know he will hire you." Iris smiled at Rose and hugged her, the quiet way Iris used to express gratitude.
"Okay, here's the office number he works at. Give it a call, say you are Iris and that you are the girl Rose recommended to Ruel. You'll schedule an interview with him."
"Thank you so much, Rose. This is a lot of help. I owe you." Iris told her while eyeing the business card with the number in it.
"Oh please! Both you and Ruel are extremely important to me and there's nothing I want more than to help you both." Also, Rose didn't say aloud, she wanted them to be happy together.
