It all started about a year and a half ago.
A student who returned to retrieve something they had forgotten in school, began to hear a beautiful song in the middle of the night. A melodic voice belonging to a female, resonated throughout the dead silence of the school.
The student rushed to check the time, confused, only to get a sharp chill up their spine as it was sharp twelve in the midnight. They were smart enough to know that someone in their right mind would not stay back so late for anything.
How'd I not realize I've been here for a long time?!
They felt creeped out, yet continued on their way towards their class. Only to get lost through the turns of the hallways. Hallways they used to know like back of their hand. Their air intake quickened, eyes flickering around nonstop, as if something would jump at them out of thin air.
The student was completely lost, as if the song had bent the space itself, leading them through an endless maze. However, they never stopped, despite their breath coming out shallow and short as the song continued. They were paranoid, as if something wrong would happen to them any moment.
Out of options to try, the student tried to finding their way by listening to the beautiful song. To no avail unfortunately, because her voice bounced through the walls, going low and high, loud and soft, and eerily slow. The song echoing through the empty school, proved it difficult to find where it was coming from.
This only seemed to distort the student's senses more as they stumbled down some stairs, slowly ascending with the help of the rails as their legs couldn't stop shaking.
After what felt like hours, they finally managed to find the main exit of the building, their hopes skyrocketing as they made their way out to what they thought was freedom.
Unfortunate for them though, just as they managed to take a step out into the moonlight-the song stopped abruptly, making them freeze on their place as well.
Whether the song ended or if it was stopped on purpose? They weren't sure. Not like they had the right mentality to think about it either way, because their thoughts were directed to one purpose only. To escape. Nothing more, nothing less.
One thing for sure though, the sudden stop of the song only increased their nerves-because of the deadly silence now brought upon them. Hell, not even the sound of a cricket was heard as the moon shone above them, granting them with a dim light.
The student's stomach churned in a wrong way with their heart racing like it never did before. Their breaths coming out as pants, as the cold of the night fogged the exhales.
Then suddenly, a peculiar sound echoed its way into their alert mind. Which had dreed settle within the bottom of their stomach instantly.
Why? Because the echo of footsteps that cut through the silence, sharp like a knife, drawing closer to them from behind-was the last streak for the student who was on the verge of passing out.
