IT WAS LATER THAT NIGHT WHEN REAGAN FINALLY GOT HER MOTHER TO EAT. She hadn't been eating all day, after she told her the news. "Mama, I know that you don't want to eat, but please. Eat." Reagan pleaded as she handed her the plate. Her mother ate slowly, but she was eating. That was all Reagan wanted.
Reagan stood in the kitchen, leaning against the counter. She was just happy that her mother was eating. Her mother was normally a very happy person, but after she heard the news she changed. Reagan heard her mother's plate clatter onto the table. She stopped daydreaming for a minute and walked out to get her mother's plate.
Reagan grabbed it off the table and walked back into the kitchen. She placed it in the sink and went back to leaning on the counter. She was leaning for a few minutes before she heard her mother's shuffling footsteps coming into the kitchen.
"Reagan, I want you to come to church with me on Sunday." Her mother told her, grabbing something from the fridge. Reagan sighed and leaned her head on the counter. "Mama, that isn't my thing. You know that. I know that. Everyone in the damn town knows that 'cause you talk to everybody."
"Reagan, I'm not asking. Come. Come and pray for your father's soul."
She turned and looked at her mother. Reagan smiled lightly and then nodded. Her mother sighed and hugged her.
"Besides, theres a new preacher. Come meet him."
She nodded once more and watched as her mother shuffled back into the living room. Reagan sighed and stared out the window. She knew going to church was a bad idea, she just didn't know what was going to happen.
