I held my breath, my skin cold, my eyes filled with unshed tears as I slowly turned the knob and opened the door. Everything is still the same. Four years. From the pink and cream coloured interior, the vanilla like curtains that draped around the entire room, the soft mattress that I once cried myself to sleep in, everything. Lahat walang nag bago. Even the girl that stood right in front of the mirror right now, staring back at me.
Who am I kidding? Even with the newly acquired success, I am still the same girl that hid behind her closet in fear of getting scolded because of her unsatisfactory grades. I have always strived not to be better, but the best in everything that I do. I did not attend extracurricular school activities. My parents told me that it was a waste of time. My life seems like a Ferris wheel ride. I have taken over a million turns that it have become less exciting. Except that what never was, will never will be.
"I knew it." I turned around to face an annoyed Lorie. Her hands on her waist as she looked at me like a mathematical problem she couldn't solve.
"What?" I asked as I picked up a picture frame from the vanity table. It's a picture of the 14 year old me smiling primly at the camera. The first shareholders meeting that I have attended. I heard Lorie exhaled a heavy breath, making me lock my eyes on her. She's wearing a scowl on her face.
"You're wearing that face again"
"What face?"
"The I'm-not-happy-with-my-life-face" I frowned.
"I don't have a I'm-not-happy-with-my-life-face."
"Yes you do. You're wearing it right now"
"Lorie, I am practically wearing a face one way or another. I do not understand what you mean" I breathed out a sigh and placed the frame back on its place. Lorie held my shoulders, making me look at her, my eyes widened by surprise.
"As your manager, I am utterly concern with your well being. Look at you, your eyes are empty, your shoulders are always tensed, and you seem to be walking on thin ice. I say, you go out there and live your fucking life Phine" I do not say anything. Afraid that my voice might break. Lorie breathed out another sigh and let me go. "Look, I understand where you're coming from but you've got to stop tormenting yourself. This is your life Phine, live it"
It is so easy to say it. It is so easy to agree. But to actually put actions on such words is like asking the sea to part just so I could cross it. I have guards watching over me 24/7. Paparazzis stalk my every move. And to put the cherry on top of my life sundae, my parents is very much aware of my every move no matter how petty, how insignificant, and small it is. It is enough to make anyone feel insane. But then again, everyone is just as crazy.
But I nodded. Unsure of what my next move will be, I nodded. She nodded along, in a slow pace, her eyes never leaving mine. "Okay, I'm going to distract your guards outside and make sure to step on that accelerator as hard as you can. But please, call me when you arrive onto wherever you want to go. Your parents will be here a day after tomorrow so I'll be expecting you to come back before they arrive, okay?" She said, her tone fast and unsure. Am I really going to do this? What if they'll hunt me down? Hindi naman siguro sila aabot sa ganoon diba? Nahihibang na ba ako?
"Take this bag, it has cash so you won't have to use your credit and debit cards" She went on and on, my hand clutched the black handbag tightly and nodded. "I want you to stay in that corner, when your guards come rushing in, take that opportunity to run outside. I have already talked to the housemaids about this, they'll help you stall time."
"Lorie, it's futile. I'm going to come back anyway."
What's the point when in two days time, I'll come back like a lost puppy only to get scolded again and again. Rebellion is not the answer to this. If it is, I would've done it years ago. When I still had a grasp of the loom that weaved the thread of my life. When I still had choice, even if it was regarding on the most trivial things.
