Addison's POV:

"Harlow is asleep" Meredith sighed in relief, plopping down next to where I sat on the couch, binge watching reality TV and folding laundry.

"She went down easy tonight" I smirk, knowing damn well that our child would never do any such thing.

"Yeah right" she snorts "she wanted at least sixteen stories story, then she had to pee at least six times, and then she fake cried when I turned the light off" she counts on her fingers, and I chuckle.

Harlow was nearly six years old, and gave us a run for our money every single night. We rock, paper, scissored over it tonight; Meredith had lost, rock beats scissors and I was in the clear. I got the easy task of putting our fourteen month old toddler, Evelyn, to bed. And Eve was, without a doubt, the easiest baby on the planet.

Her sister, on the other hand, was a whole other story.

"It's your turn tomorrow night" Meredith laughs, as I folded yet another little pink onesie. As small as it was, I remembered when they were so much smaller.

"I hope this works. I hope we have another one" She smiles, folding a tiny shirt and moving on to a little pair of pink pants with flowers on them. "Evie needs a buddy, Harlow has Sofia, and they're like, five years older than her" we'd just gotten artificial insemination done two weeks prior; I'd been waiting for my period, and while there was nothing so far, I was too sketched out that I'd get a false negative to take a test quite yet.

"Let's hope it's one buddy and not two" I smirk, kissing her on the cheek. "I don't feel very pregnant. But it hasn't been long" I point out hopefully, not wanting to be a pessimist. It had taken us months to conceive Harlow, and then close to three years to conceive Evelyn.

Needless to say, I don't think either Meredith nor I could handle another loss.

"Two wouldn't be so bad. Or maybe three?" She smiles "I want all of your babies, Dr. Montgomery" she teases, and I flick a pair of tiny purple socks at her, rolling my eyes but grinning nonetheless.

"We already have two. Four, and then done. Remember?" I point out, remembering the deal we'd made to only have the four. Anything over four required a mini van instead of an SUV, and I didn't ever want to have to do that. "Plus, they're your eggs. The babies aren't genetically mine" I point out, but she just shrugs casually.

We'd opted to go for reciprocal IVF, which basically meant that Meredith's eggs would be fertilized using donor sperm, and the embryo resulting from that would be implanted in my uterus.

"You do such a good job growing them, I could never grow them as perfectly as you do"

I just laugh, and as if on cue, the sharp sound of the doorbell startles me from the couch, prompting me to look to Meredith with a confused look.

"I'll get it" I sigh, throwing the pants back into the laundry basket, groaning as I stood up to get the door. It was inconvenient, but whoever it was probably had the wrong door, so I wasn't expecting much.

"It's probably someone looking for directions" Meredith says, calling over her shoulder, as I make my way to the door.

When I open it, to my surprise, there's a young girl standing there, probably no more than seventeen or eighteen, with a head of strawberry-blonde hair and the bluest shade of eyes I'd ever seen; like two oceans staring back at me with a shocked expression.

She looked familiar in a way that planted a seed of unease and curiosity within my stomach.

"Hi" I say, confused, but still smiling. She looked terrified, for some reason, and I didn't want to freak her out any more than she already seemed to be.
