This story contains heavy themes and I suggest you don't read it if you are easily disturbed.

Jakurai sighed as he stared out the window of his office. He was currently on break as there was nothing for him to do at the moment, but the unsettling feeling the rain outside was giving him made him want nothing more than to return to his work. It was not that he disliked the rain, in fact he quite liked it. However, this unsettling feeling had followed him around the entire day, threatening him to never leave his side unless he found out what was troubling him so much. Obviously, as his work was stationed at a hospital, it would make sense for him to be concerned, but a feeling this unsettling should not come from work.

The rain kept pouring down in incredible streams as he wished for his break to be over. What could possibly be bothering him so much? As he skimmed through his schedule which was at this point just a list of a couple of the things he had to do during the day as things rarely went according to plan, his eyes stopped at one of the points. "Greet the new nurse" it said.

Of course.

How could he possibly forget? He had already seen her once, although it was just a glimpse. She had instantly piqued his interest as her tired eyes did not fit her energetic personality at all. Her eyes reminded him of Doppo's as they looked like sadness and loneliness had filled them to the brim. However, compared to Doppo, she had done a good job in hiding the dark circles as Jakurai was unsure if they were even there. The energy she had radiated as one of the other doctors showed her around and taught her how to work the machines looked like that of Hifumi, as well as her relaxed way of speaking which too reminded him of Hifumi when he wore his suit.

She had been on his mind ever since the day she first came, having no plans in leaving, just like the unsettling feeling that was still pestering him. Realizing there was still nothing for him to do, he thought there was no better time to greet the new nurse than now. He let out a short sigh, bearing no emotion, before lifting himself of his chair and making his way to the lobby in hopes of running into the mysterious girl there.

He had been trying to get to the lobby for a while now, constantly getting stopped at every door as either a fellow doctor, nurse or patient decided to greet him instead of the person he was actually looking for. As he finally made it to the water dispenser closest to the lobby, he let himself breathe for a second and drink a cup of water. Who would have thought it would be this hard to get to the lobby? He chuckled to himself as the thought of everyone being so eager to talk to him gave him enough happiness and energy to last for the rest of his shift. Thinking he was alone in the hallway, he almost drops his water as a voice suddenly startles him from behind.

He turns around, ready to apologise as he had not clearly heard what the soft voice had said but finds himself unable to form words as his eyes meet yours. They were just as he remembered them, bearing so much emotion it caught him off guard. The sweet and caring tone of your voice matched your tired eyes almost a little too perfectly. "U-umm..." you pull your eyes away from his, awkwardly staring at the ground instead. Jakurai realizes he has been staring at you for a questionable amount of time, clearing his voice as well as his appearance before finally managing to speak.

"Please excuse my rudeness, but I did not quite catch what you said." There is a hint of embarrassment in his voice as he struggles to decide on where to look. You laugh gently before repeating yourself. "You seem to be having fun!" Jakurai looks at your precious smile, examining your entire expression as well as body language. "Ah, yes. The people of this hospital can be quite charming at times." he returns your smile, wondering if he saw a slight blush on your cheeks. "You must be the new nurse?" he continues. You nod before answering. "Yes! I guess you've heard of me then?"
