Jungkook stumbled into the dark, dingy but familiar hallway. Leaning against the wall for support, he dragged himself to the kitchen, leaving a trail of smeared blood on the wall. He had kept the equipments ready before he left the house that day. Breathing heavily, he slumped against the wall and dropped to the floor. Pulling out the pocket knife from his sock, he cut the shirt away from his body. It took him longer than it ought to have. Surely at twenty three, he couldn't be slowing down yet. He took a long sip of the alcohol he had kept aside for the occasion. Where was that bastard Min Gyu?! It ought to have taken him only five minutes to reach here, and Jungkook was pretty sure it was past that. He groaned and took another sip.
"Copycats killed the rat," said a deep husky voice outside the kitchen window.
"Spiders ate the cat," Jungkook spat out with effort.
The kitchen's back door swung open and a tall familiar figure walked in.
"Rough night?" Min Gyu asked.
"What took you so long?"
"Had to make sure no one followed you back," Min Gyu explained as he crouched down next to the bloodied assassin.
Jungkook scoffed. "You dare doubt me."
Min Gyu pulled out a pencil flash light and double checked the blinds and the doors. After he was satisfied, he flicked the switch, flooding the grim kitchen in a weak, white light. Jungkook winced.
Min Gyu glanced at the wound before reaching for the alcohol. "Not that bad. You could have taken care of it yourself."
"Then what would be the point of having a friend like you," Jungkook said.
Min Gyu simply scoffed.
Jungkook lay on his stomach on the cold kitchen floor and bit on a piece of clothe as Min Gyu pried the lodged bullet from his shoulder.
Min Gyu then dressed it up with all the tenderness that a twenty three year old assassin who had been trained to kill since the age of thirteen could muster.
Jungkook finally managed to sit up and they sat side by side, leaning against the kitchen counter, sharing another bottle of wine.
"Anything lined up?" Min Gyu asked.
"Nothing as of now," replied Jung Kook. "You?"
"Yes," Min Gyu said, pulling out a pack of cigarette. "A drug lord." He offered one to Jungkook who took it.
Thin wisp of smoke filled the cramped kitchen.
"Moving anytime soon?" asked Min Gyu.
"Yes," Jungkook replied. "I'm being shifted to District seven."
"Lucky you," mumbled Min Gyu.
Being shifted to District seven meant that Jungkook would not be receiving assignments for a while.
"You know it doesn't work that way for us," said Jungkook, taking a long drag. "I get restless when I don't have assignments."
"I didn't mean that," Min Gyu clarified. "District Seven has Madam Geomy's girls."
In each district with an odd number, there was a brothel that only the top tiered members of the society had access to. District Seven was reputed to be one of the favorites.
Jungkook smirked. "You know it's hard to please me."
Min Gyu took his time taking a drag. Then, reaching into his coat pocket, he pulled out a chit of paper. After glancing at it to make sure, he threw it at Jungkook. "Trust me, even the toughest lion purrs sometimes."
