I was about to prepare our dinner when my daughter suddenly hugged me from behind and started bawling like a baby.
I immediately got worried and turned around to talk to her properly.
"What's the matter?" I asked.
She continued crying and shook her head.
I motioned her to sit on the sofa and she obliged.
"What happened? Please talk to me." I said as I wiped the tears on her face.
"Promise you won't get mad at me?" She asked in a quivering voice.
I smiled and nodded to assure her that I won't get mad. She stayed silent for a few seconds and fished out something from her pocket and showed it to me.
I was astounded by what I saw. There were two lines from the pregnancy test which indicates that it is positive. I didn't expect this to happen to her at this age. She's just 18 years old. She's supposed to go to college two months from now.
"Ma, I'm sorry. I'm pregnant."
"What?" I asked to make sure I heard it right
"I'm really sorry, Ma!" She started crying again and I hugged her.
I processed everything while hugging her and when everything finally sunk in, I pulled away from the hug and looked at her.
"What do you want to do now?" I asked.
She looked confused by my question.
"Do you want to get an abortio-"
I didn't get to finish my question when she cut me off.
"No, I wanna keep the baby, Ma."
I nodded and smiled at her
"Did you tell your boyfriend about this already?"
"Yes. We decided to keep the baby."
"What about college?"
She suddenly became tensed at my question and started biting her nails. I pulled her hand away from her mouth spanked it a little bit.
"You're going to have a baby now, and yet you're still biting your nails. Do you want the baby to eat your nails?" I jokingly asked and she seemed confused.
"Why aren't you mad at me, Ma?" She asked.
"Do you want the baby?"
"Yes."
"Are you happy?"
"I think so, but I'm also terrified."
"If you're happy, then I'm happy as well. I'm a little bit disappointed though 'cause this isn't what I expected. However, I want nothing but happiness for you. So, I'll always support you. I'll always be here for you."
