Thinking of how knowing this skill would enable him to help Mei Chao Bing in the future, Yun Bei Fen was eager to try it out. "Alright, let me give it a try!"
Mei Chao Bing nodded with a smile, happy that his little bunny had gotten back into the mood. "Alright, let's do that. Do you understand how it works?"
Yun Bei Fen looked a little unsure at that. "I think you're just using your spiritual energy to make the wall?" He wasn't sure if he would be able to do that though.
Mei Chao Bing nodded. "Exactly right. So just gather your spiritual energy and then concentrate it at a spot first. You don't have to cover your whole body immediately. Just try to cover a small place. Maybe about the size of one hand." He raised a hand himself, gathering his spiritual energy in front of his palm just like he had explained. "Just like this."
Yun Bei Fen stared at Mei Chao Bing's hand in confusion before he finally used his spiritual sense. Then, he finally noticed the glowing light in front of Mei Chao Bing's hand. He looked at it for a while, before shaking his head and returning to his normal sight, giving it a try himself.
He gathered his spiritual energy just like he would do it when trying to make his sword fly. There was indeed some kind of little shield formed of spiritual energy. Unfortunately, it wasn't the same kind of almost blindingly bright, even shield that Mei Chao Bing had made. Instead, it was patchy, bright in some spots, and almost invisible in others. No matter how he looked at it, it seemed ugly and not functional at all. How was this supposed to save Mei Chao Bing from any attacks? He really couldn't imagine it!
Mei Chao Bing looked at Yun Bei Fen's first try and nodded though. "That's already quite good. You have to do it exactly in this way. Now, you just have to work on evening out the spiritual energy. The goal is to have the same amount everywhere. That ensures that the incoming attack can be absorbed or reflected. If the amount stays uneven, then part of the attack might go through and hurt you."
Yun Bei Fen looked up at him, feeling that he actually hadn't done very well since it looked very different from Mei Chao Bing's shield. "Is it really alright like this?"
Mei Chao Bing reached out and gently ruffled his hair. "Little bunny, that was your first try. My first try didn't look any better than that back then either. It's just a matter of trying it a few more times and then slowly getting used to it. Just don't give up! And anyway, even a shield that isn't completely even will be able to reduce an incoming attack. So this will already make you slightly safer. That's better than nothing, right?"
Yun Bei Fen beamed. Mei Chao Bing had called him a little bunny. He hadn't done that before. But ... it sounded very nice. As if he was trying to coax him. His Master and senior martial brothers had done things like this in the past as well. And his third senior martial brother had told him that you would give this kind of pet name to someone you really, really liked to show them how much they meant to you.
So this meant that Mei Chao Bing cared about him a lot! Not that he hadn't known before but it was still very nice that he would show it like this.
Not saying anything in response, Yun Bei Fen plunged into his arms, hugging his waist. "I like you too!"
Mei Chao Bing raised his brows, not quite sure how he deserved this sudden confession. He still patted Yun Bei Fen's head and then leaned down, kissing his temple. "I also like you very much. So, do you want to give it another try?"
Yun Bei Fen straightened up and nodded eagerly. "Yes!" He turned away, raised his hand, and then immediately gathered his spiritual energy again, feeling even more motivated.
Seeing him so hard-working, the other members of the group couldn't help but smile. The only one who wore a sullen expression was Yang Wu Huang. He had offered to teach Yun Bei Fen but the youth had rejected him, simply not giving him any face at all. But now, this very same person had asked Mei Chao Bing to teach him instead. What was that supposed to mean?
And then to top it all off, he had actually proclaimed his love for him at the same time, completely rubbing in his face that he preferred that traitor over him. It seemed that he would need a good plan to finally make Yun Bei Fen see the light. Otherwise, that boy would really be met with a disaster soon. How could he let that happen? No, as a righteous cultivator, he couldn't let that happen.
Yang Wu Huang's expression turned thoughtful, making Mei Chao Bing who was actually slightly paying attention to what he was doing furrow his brows in turn.
Both of them had their own thoughts but while Yang Wu Huang didn't even know that he had already been exposed, Mei Chao Bing still kept to himself, not indicating that he had noticed at all. He only reminded himself that he had to pay more attention to what Yang Wu Huang and the other two would do in the future.
Those three were definitely planning something and whatever it was, he wouldn't like it. Well, it was one more thing he could add to the list of things he had to talk with a certain someone tonight about. He was quite curious to see how that would play out. And ... could he really trust that person?
