What an inconvenience.

The girl that had been feeling up the corpse intrigued Dabi, but was he really gonna drag her all the way to his set up?

(The answer was yes.)

(Girls, no matter how odd, were always a yes for Dabi.)

He had peeled her from the corpse and he was now carrying her like a sack of potatoes from the backyard of the once perfect suburban cabin, even more interested at the lack of body heat she emitted.

At first he felt a little bad about toasting that man, but it actually worked out great.

The last girl on earth.

He chuckled at the thought.

It was about a ten minute walk through from the residential area and then through the frost-bitten woods to where he had made a camp at St. Christopher's church. He had to make haste, as the sun was now a dim ember sinking down the sky.

Snow was crunching under his boots, the crisp noise kept the young man grounded as he watched the treeline for timberwolves. He had spotted one earlier that day. It had killed a deer in the graveyard outside the chapel, which Dabi was quite grateful for. There were no rations left at the camp.

The little weirdo will probably pee herself once she learns we'll be living in a church.

He was a little startled at how quick he used the word we. Maybe it had been a little too long since he'd had some company.

The girl's ragged breathing hitched as he slowly slipped down a snow dune. He wrapped his hand a little tighter around her abdomen.

What a score. It was getting kinda lonely out there.

Night fell just as he reached the church. The steeple rose into the star-speckled sky like a beacon among the dead trees, a pillar of safety.

The doorway of the small cathedral creaked as he stepped inside. The darkness had been overwhelming when he first found it. He had already hopped the pews for firewood, and the empty spaces that harbored more shadows bothered him.

But the cross of christ still loomed over the expanse, although far out of his reach. In an odd way, he was comforted.

He tossed the girl onto the ratty pile of blankets he'd been sleeping on (she barely even shifted) and quickly lit another piece of pew in his make-shift fire pit. After all, it would be a shame if his new pet froze to death.

He began the task of supper. From the looks of what the girl had been trying to eat earlier, she probably wasn't picky.

A pot was placed over the fire. He sat criss-crossed near it, beginning to slice up the deer meat that he had pried from another starving thing.

Eat or be eaten.

It was soon placed in the pot with some water, and the blue flames eagerly licked around it. Pretty soon, it was frothing and boiling. The tantalizing smell wafted through the chilly air (and this time it wasn't human flesh.)
