   CHAPTER ONE

Corrie awoke to the sound of the morning alarm, not having gotten more than an hour of sleep. She stepped out of bed at about the same time as every other girl in the dorm, except, of course, her twin sister Betsy, who was still sleeping. Corrie walked over to her bed and began to shake her unmercifully.

It took ten minutes to get Betsy up, and she took forever to get dressed, seeing as she insisted on braiding her hair and finding the most perfect outfit there was.

When they finally got to the dining hall, they only had ten minutes to eat. Corrie and Betsy were on an extremely tight schedule, for they were going to Muta, the one and only school of magic! Corrie and Betsy had to be at the airport at three PM, and they had to finish packing before that.

By noon, both Corrie and Betsy were packed, Betsy with six suitcases, Corrie with two. Betsy was sitting at what was basically the popular table with a bunch of her friends. She waved Corrie over, but Corrie pretended not to notice. She sat down at an empty table and began to eat her food. She watched Betsy and her friends, eating and talking and laughing, just as she usually did. She wished she had friends like that, that would talk to her in public. No, friends that only seemed to like her when they had a big test coming up weren't really friends, she couldn't kid herself.

She sighed and looked down at her food, a hotdog, a scoop of macaroni and cheese, and a can of soda. She couldn't stomach it. She was nervous. She was probably excited too, she just couldn't really tell right then. What if she never had any friends at Muta? Would her entire life be just as it was right then? Corrie guessed so, she'd always be the unpopular nerd, even when she knew how to perform magic. She walked back up to the girls dorm and sat down on her bed to finish packing anything she may have forgotten. She couldn't find much, Corrie had known she wouldn't. She had really come up here just to be alone. She lay down on her bed and eventually fell asleep. She didn't know how long she slept, but it was nearly two when she woke up. She quickly grabbed her small bookbag and headed out of the dorm, her and Betsy would be leaving in about twenty minutes. Corrie finally found Betsy about ten minutes before they had to leave, and told her that she should grab her bags and get ready. Corrie was finally getting excited, she was going to go and learn magic! She was going to get a fresh start. Maybe she'd even get a friend.
