"And what is this?" Dani asked, pointing at the main famous sight the town had.
"That's the water tower. It is quite boring, I doubt it even has water."
The girl giggled, putting her head on that of her temporary steed. It wasn't hard for Danny, his strength was inhuman. And she had her fun, so why not to carry the child on his shoulder. She was probably a bit old physically for this, but it wasn't that much of a bother.
That was a little excursion of theirs. Not much time remained of this summer, but Danny could show her the sites. From his conversations with Dani he learned that the ghostly ability of being an innate polyglot was present within her. If they were going to move away, it would come in handy. Just to mess with the people around they occasionally switched to different languages, be it Italian, Finnish or Swahili. Danny was getting a feeling that in the language classes she would know no equals. It was fun. Why would anyone see a child as a burden? Well, he was probably biased, seeing that he had no private life to speak of or sacrifice.
"Yo, City-boy, where have you been, dude?"
Danny turned around and saw the familiar teen gang of his. But now Robbie was tagging along again, good for him, probably. Each of them was curiously looking at the girl, who hid her face in her father's dark and messy locks. Phantom smiled and waved back at them.
"Hello, guys. It's just... I have had a lot on my plate lately, if you get what I mean," he chuckled, pointing at his passenger.
Dani glanced at them carefully, "Hi."
"Aww, she is so cute!" Nate said, outstretching his hand to her, "Is she your sis... yikes!"
The girl had kicked the teen away, so hard that Nate fell on the ground. He saw spinning stars around.
"Sorry!" Dani called, hiding her green embarrassed face, "You scared me."
"Why would you babysit a kid all of a sudden?" Robbie asked with a raised eyebrow, "Then again, you do shift between murderous and soft in a blink of an eye. Is it something like a phase?"
"Daddy, I don't like him," the girl whispered on Danny's ear.
"Because I want to, Robbie. Would you like to see my less pleasant 'phase'?" He smirked, sounding as sweet as possible. He didn't like the guy as well. Few liked Robbie Valentino.
Robbie backtracked. Jesus, those icy eyes were really scary. Why nobody else saw it? And that girl had those too. They were obviously related.
"Whatever. Where are you going, anyway?"
"Danny and me are getting ice-cream!" Dani said in excitement, her past fears forgotten. "Come oooon," she moaned child-like.
"Danielle... have patience."
One had to be also stern enough sometimes, lest he spoiled her completely. And the girl obeyed, whining quietly. Then Danny noticed quite a commotion around, directed at the City Hall.
"What's with all the racket?" He asked.
"Dude, didn't you hear? Mayor Befufftlefumpter kicked the bucket!" responded Lee, "People can hardly believe it. The guy seemed like he would be in charge forever. So..." he shrugged, "The grown-ups are electing a new mayor."
