Lyra first met Elia, at the top of the bridge. Strange rendezvous.
Lyra was about end it all. She had finally found that David had been cheating on her since day one. But that was never the problem. Problem was the consequences of their secret relationship. She never knew how she would face her family, if they got to know about it. For David was never a nice man. He had his twisted ways, vile enough to ruin her life.
Atop the bridge, gazing down at the river below, images of her family flashed across her fragile mind. She had mumbled an apology to her mother, and was about to leap, when a voice called out to her.
A woman of her age.
What she talked was something Lyra never wanted to reveal to anyone. But in the end, the woman said, "Pray."
That single word almost flipped Lyra and her world. For somehow she regained her strength.
She never asked her name.
For the woman had just walked away.
After saving her life.
Not even waiting for a thank you.She saw her again.
This time at her own hospital.
The woman had been brought with severe bleeding after a drastic road accident. Lyra was a bit surprised on seeing the woman.
Weak.
For that was not how she had met her that day.Lyra battled with death for that woman, and she won after a fierce fight. Three hours in the operation theatre, Lyra had finally saved the woman.
But she was still unconscious.Lyra had slipped into her room, where she lay inanimate.
She held her pale hands and mumbled a thank you.She saw from her ID that her name was Elia Rivers.
And in her journals were poems.
Poems about love.
Breakups.
Happiness.
And solitude.Lyra smiled as she placed all of Elia's belongings on the bedside table.
She met her again.
This time they had planned the meeting.Elia was a successful author, and a spokesperson while Lyra was still a doctor. A good one at that.
As they sipped champagne sitting at the Le Cinq in Paris, Elia glanced at Lyra, and mouthed a thank you.
To which Lyra smiled.______
