Episode 6: Rhapsody
"You've got to be kidding me."
Toni let out a sigh while running his hand through his hair.
Inexplicably anxious, Jamie looked at what was in front of them - the car which had spontaneously broken down and now left them stranded.
"I cannot believe this thing decides to break down now of all times. What a load of shit."
"Hey, no need to be insulting Barbara like that! I thought you said you loved her."
"I love the model. When it comes to my car, I don't know how I feel about her anymore."
He folded his arms over his chest.
"You're very quick to switch sides. How can you be so disloyal to it when it has been there for you all this time prior?"
"Oh shut up, we're not doing this over an inanimate object."
"All I'm saying is you shouldn't be roasting her."
"She has failed us! She failed me!" She yelled dramatically.
Toni's eyes narrowed themselves in assessment of her. "Is there the tiniest possibility that the water wasn't enough to sober you up and you're still drunk?"
"I'm freaking sober, Toni. So sober that it physically hurts me to admit it because I'm in a situation that has me on edge. Are you forgetting that we're literally ten metres away from the house of man whose property we just vandalized?"
The man held up a pointed finger.
"Vandalized is a strong term." He even winced a bit while saying it.
"We did grafitti on his expensive cars." She deadpanned.
His eye twitched.
Looking around slowly, Toni surprised Jamie when he took her hand in his and started off down the street. "I agree. Staying here isn't the smartest option for us. Let's take a walk. It'll clear our heads and have us think of something."
"Why are we walking instead of calling a cab or something?"
"No cellphone signal."
"How befitting. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a chainsaw murder waiting for us down the street."
"As crazy as it sounds, being caught by the police and going to jail for destruction of property seems less appealing than the 1% chance of that happening."
"Do you watch horror movies, Mccain? The probability of things like that happening in scenarios like this are actually over 30%. Knowing the luck I've had since I met you, I know it wouldn't be too far-fetched for that to happen to us."
"I don't watch scary movies in fear of being delusional enough to have thoughts like this everytime I'm alone or in a vulnerable situation."
"It's always the unsuspecting ones that go first," she looked at him pitifully.
He gaped at her.
"You're talking crazy, Viard. I hope you know that."
"No, I am not. I'm being realistic."
"Paranoid, that's what you're being."
She paused and turned to him.
The moonlight acted as a illuminator for her angry expression.
"Do you wanna fight in the middle of the street because I can assure you, I've got time."
He scoffed.
