We Can Never Go Back

Chapter 2

2 hours later
Annnd the final touch, I looked around my new room to find it AHA there it is hidden behind my collection of pictures from around the world.

I took the small frame in my hands it was a framed photo of me and my dad it was our last day together.

He and my mom met through a dating app, my mom was studying to be a doctor and my dad was a lawyer with lots of money.

They got married a few months later than had me, he realized him and mom was moving too fast and he decided to divorce, but it was okay for my mom because he left a portion of the money for me and mom and he just kept traveling the world and kept sending me photos and postcards.

Until he went missing a few months back, and so mom didn't have enough money.

People say he crashed, or just wanted to be alone and no one found him off the coast of somewhere in the Atlantic, so mom decided to move here to Iowa. I honestly don't know how this will be better but I hope soon it will.

"Amelia!!!" my mom shouted from downstairs"
"Yesss"
"Could you do me a favor and go into town to go get something"
"Um ok so does this mean I can drive the car"
"NO of course not just go on that bike we saw in the lawn I am sure you can fit and be quick"
"Ughh I hate going on bikes it makes me look like I am 5 or something and I know how to drive so why can't I?" I winned.
"Nope no buts just go to town on that bike or help me clean the basement"
Oh no not the basement "Um nevermind I think I'll just go to town" I quickly ran downstairs gave my mom a quick kiss and left.

The town was easy to find it was the only place with actual people in it. As I rode in the town was seemingly quiet and nice there wasn't any people around. Okay, so eggs, water, noodles, and salmon, well that should be easy to find.
I got to the store "Benny's Groceries" looked pretty nice so I went inside. I looked around to find no one at the store only the old man behind the counter.
I walked over to the man he had prickly dark skin, he wore an apron with stains I had never seen before, the man was concentrating hard with his glasses on the piece of paper that looked like a crossword puzzle.
"Excuse me but is the store closed am I coming in a bad time" I asked.
The man gave me a look, then smiled and said "Well I am guessing your new here"
I chuckled "well what makes you say that"
"Everyone in town knows not to go out during sundown" his smiled dropped.
"Especially little girls like you" he tried to grab my arm but I was too quick.
I quickly rushed out of the store, who does this man think he is scaring me like that. But soon after I look around I noticed he might be actually right. Other people from stores started to rush into cars and drive away, other people like the old man just fully locked their stores and rushed to their safe haven.
Except for me...I was alone
