One midsummer day the wolf spirit who lives in the heavens decided to go see the land of the living where he used to live before his death. As he was wandering the lands he noticed that the land was unbalanced, there were too many deer and they would eat the grass and then things would only get worse. He saw a tribe and went to catch the attention of the warriors who were protecting their land and he asked to speak to their leader. They are hesitant but they decided to get their leader whose name is Piyakwan (I am the same ). The wolf spirit Pita tells piyakwan about his concerns. The chief then reveals they have been living mostly on plants and vegetables and need more sustenance to take them through the winter. The chief asks what he can do to help. The wolf tells the chief that they need to hunt for fresh meat. The chief agrees to take pita's help to learn how to hunt. After many weeks of teaching the tribe how to make and use their spears to kill big game it was now time to hunt. Only the most skilled hunters were picked for the hunt. They are not sure how long they will be gone so they take three horses, four hunters and the chief and they are led by pita into a clearing deep in the woods. They take their places while pita goes to round up some game and lead them into the trap. Soon four deer are down and the hunters begin to pack up the meat and take it back to the tribe. On the way back to the tribe the chief tells the pita they need to have a talk when they return. As they go to a private area in the village the chief thanks the wolf for all his help but asks how they will hunt next season without him. Pita tells him ''I can't stay, my visitation is almost over, I need to return to the spirit world. But if you make an offering to me I will know when you need my help and I will come. And so the friendship between Piyakwan and Pita began.
