Nova is not your average girl, though she looks it, she's been through a lot. She definitely knows how to hide it because you'd never be able to tell on the surface, but once you get to know her you see the tendencies her trauma has created. For example she knows how to get her adrenaline running at will, something very useful when she needs to run, as she's not athletic at all. Another is she can lie, very very well. Of course she would only do it when need be..at least that's what she tells people. Nova graduated top of her class which is surprising considering how many times she's had to move in the middle of a school year. But alas she graduated high school at 18, with a 4.0 GPA mind you. She was not valedictorian only because she was not popular, everyone knows that's a popularity contest. Nova loves school, she loves to learn new things, she especially loves science and math. She always dreamed of going to university, living in a very shitty apartment with a bunch of roommates and having thousands and thousands of student loans by the time she graduated and would probably never pay back in her life. The college dream right? Nova unfortunately grew up in the foster care system, ever since she was a few months old. And unfortunately she was never adopted by a nice family wanting a baby, she never knew why because babies usually go quickly for adoptions but for some reason she didn't, she ended up aging out of the foster care system at 18, her being in foster care is the reason she moved schools a lot, she never stayed in the same foster home for more then a few months at a time. She's never had a good foster home, just some more pleasant then others. Nova is a victim of abuse, physical, verbal and sexual. She doesn't tell people of course, who wants to flaunt their abuse? But people would find out and call social services and get her taken from the home and moved to another one. Once she aged out she stayed at her last foster home, she was trying to find a job and have an income to get an apartment but one day she had a fight with her foster parents and ended up running away, that's where she ran into Kai. No literally ran into him. Nova met Kai on the run from her abusive foster dad, she also sprained her ankle while running. So Kai took her in his home to save her. And there she stayed. One thing lead to another and they fell in love, both are the others first partner. Kai is a mafia boss, but don't tell anyone, or he will kill you. Nova doesn't entirely understand what Kai does, just that he tortures and kills people, but he's really sweet to her so she stays out of his work life. They've made many promises to each other, and both have full intention of fulfilling those promises.
