THIRD POV
Practice with Itachiyama last week was..... fun.
Not completely. It was just annoying.
For Atsumu anyways.
Three days. Three days out of school that Atsumu had to hang out with the team (just Y/n really), he missed some chances to cage his manager and have fun.
It's just that Yumemi really had to scoop Y/n every time from her team unless she was needed to do manager stuff.
But now seemed better— Y/n was finally all his with Yumemi out of the picture. The thought made him grin.
There was this instance though, where he almost popped a vein from frustration because even though the chance of hanging with Y/n on the training camp was little to none, he really tried hard to approach her, but there was another block to his wants.
Sakusa Kiyoomi.
The jet always stuck by Y/n's side whenever there was break. But when someone from Inarizaki wanted to come for their manager in breaks— Yumemi pulls her away to do whatever.
Atsumu was pissed to no end.
All is greater now though with Y/n right next to him. Two seats he guarded very well just for him and the girl.
To say that Kita was annoyed would be an understatement.
As for Osamu and Suna, well, the two hopeless boys let Atsumu go on his obstinate ways with Y/n.
They still kept a sharp eye on the blonde's actions though. Who knows what stunt that could go over boundaries he'd pull.
Now here they are here in Tokyo Metrapolitan Gymnasium where a lot of challengers awaits.
Never did the girl manager's faith and hope waver, because she knew they were the strongest challengers.
"Atsumu," She hummed.
The blonde looked from the gym doors to her, "Hmm?"
She gave him a smile, "The ceremony is about to start. Me along with the coaches are on standby as you all march and represent Hyogo."
"O-Okay," He mentally cursed himself from stuttering.
Who could blame him though? A smiling Y/n was a gem to keep.
These past few weeks all his heart could do was do astronomical flips whenever he would see the girl smile or laugh. He figured that she was growing accustomed and versatile around the team, especially him along with Suna and Osamu.
He never felt this proud because of a girl before.
It honestly puts a smile on his face.
Y/n at first was a quiet, composed girl. But seeing her true colors shine like none other— Atsumu felt soft every second when she's around.
And now seeing her just there to support him— it was yet the best thing that could happen in his 2nd year.
Kita appeared with Osamu and Suna, "It's starting. Hurry, Atsumu."
"Right," The blonde nodded and was about to go when Y/n grabbed his hand.
The manager gave three fingers okay, "Do your best, Atsumu."
The boy did not hesitate to hug her.
"Woah—," She lightly choked when the boy squeezed her harder.
He pulled away with a bright grin, "I'll do my bestest best for you."
"Yes. And for the team, too," She nodded, obviously dense at Atsumu's approach.
The blonde just laughed and ruffled her hair before joining the team with a final wave.
•
"Ya nervous?" The coach side eyed their manager.
She shook her head and fiddled with her fingers, "Not really. I just didn't expect that it would be chilly here."
"Do you need a thicker jacket?" The other coach asked.
Again, she shook her head, "It's okay— I can manage."
Y/n blinked when she felt a jacket curtain her back, the coldness easing.
She was surprised when Bokuto was there, grinning brightly.
"I remembered how you'd feel off even with the slightest temperature change. So I wandered for 10 minutes just to find you before it was our time to march," He laughed.
She gulped, the plan of making him hate her suddenly blurred away, "...Oh, um..."
Bokuto's smile faltered and almost turned upside down at the expression she was giving him.
But that went away when Y/n smiled with her eyes closed, "Thank you, Ko."
The owl went red and froze on the spot. The coaches whistled lowly and looked away with smirks on their faces.
"Y-You...smiled??" He whispered in disbelief, eyes slightly wide.
She laughed lightly, the sound swirled inside Bokuto's senses as if it was heavenly music itself, "Why wouldn't I? Your smile is contagious. Now go on— thank you for the jacket I'll make sure to give it back later. Join your team before you come late. You're the captain, right?"
"Yes ma'am!" He saluted with a blush and beaming smile.
The girl waved as he ran off to his team, almost bumping into someone in the process.
Her eyes travelled down his back, she let out a snicker.
Ko, your jersey shorts did you good.
The girl wore the jacket better and realized it was one of Bokuto's favorite ones. She subconsciously smiled as the coaches snicker to themselves like they were guys gossiping about young love.
The music started and the crowds got more hyped up. Y/n pushed back the rising anxiety when the beat reached her loud, thumping heart and just enjoyed watching each team march especially her players.
We are the strongest challengers here.
We'll conquer Nationals.
We don't need memories.
Push back the past and forget the previous events.
We are facing the current one, with fruitful challenges waiting ahead of us.

i believe we would only have 4-6 chapters left
prepare for a canon divergent-ish for anime watchers (manga readers too)
and for a separate chapter that has atsumu's canon timeskip (for manga readers, not recommended for anime watchers for it contains spoilers)
thank you for 42k reads <33
