Rainbows, cake, and begging

Jett

I sat in a chair as Amelia's grandmother sat in front of me. Everyone else watched. Okay, there's nothing nerve-wracking about this situation.

"Amelia's middle name is Rainbow. Enzo named her after my mom and me because we're rainbows. Grandpa Luke said everyone needs a rainbow. Do you need a rainbow?" Rain asked me.

"Uh," I said, looking at everyone who nodded. "Yes," I finished.

"Good, because rainbows form when light reflects off raindrops, creating a prism and producing a rainbow," Rain explained.

Okay, I'm getting a science lesson from Rain.

"Do you like cake?" Rain asked.

I looked at Rain, then glanced at everyone who mouthed yes.

"Yep," I answered.

"What flavor do you like?" Rain questioned.

Cole held up a paper that said vanilla.

"Vanilla is good," I replied.

"Vanilla is the best choice. I don't like chocolate," Rain told me.

I sat there, rubbing my palms on my pant legs as Rain kept interrogating me.

"Now, do you beg?" Rain asked.

"Come again?" I questioned.

"Cole begged Wade to forgive him for acting like a doof," Rain told me.

Cole facepalmed himself.

"Cole is a doof because he made me lie about him and Wade. You shouldn't make people lie for you," Rain informed me.

"Noted," I agreed.

"People beg other people too much in this family. Antonio doesn't beg me; he gives me Rainbow Dash when I'm stressed," Rain added.

I sat there, perplexed. Rain stared at me as I looked at her, trying to figure out what she would ask next. The others looked at me with anticipation as the door opened, revealing Amelia and her parents.

"I like you," Rain told me, surprising everyone.

"Uh, Rain, you don't know Jett," Cole mentioned.

Rain stood up and looked at Cole. "I know that I like Jett. His tone isn't harsh, and he answered my questions. He looks pleasant and friendly. People think you're mean because of your tattoos, but you got them for me so you could tell me a story," Rain told Cole.

I stood up and touched Rain gently on the shoulder. She looked at me.

"I like Twilight Sparkle because she learned about friendship and what made the other ponies unique," I said, surprising everyone.

Rain smiled at me. She turned to Amelia's dad. "I'm hungry. Let's go eat," she signed as he nodded. They left as the others made excuses to leave me alone with Amelia.

Kaden closed the door as I stood there, feeling awkward as hell. There's nothing like people abandoning you in your time of need.

"So," I said as Amelia looked at me. "About that date."

"Where did you want to go?" Amelia asked curiously.

"You still want to go on a date with me?" I stared at Amelia in disbelief.

"I begged you, and you said yes. Did you change your mind?"

"No!" My answer came out way higher than I expected it to do. It's like I hit puberty twice. "Uh,
no, I haven't changed my mind. Do you like cake?" I looked at Amelia curiously.
