~~Megan's POV~~
I woke up. It was about 4 am.
"Penny wake up I wanna plan our escape," I said, sitting up.
Penny woke, slowly rubbing her eyes.
"Yeah, I'm nocturnal," She replied sarcastically.
I shook my head in disapproval.
"Ok, ok, you win, we can sleep a little longer"
She replied with a satisfied groan.
I layed down but didn't sleep, the room was still dark. The navy blue curtain flowed in the soft breeze. I stayed awake staring intensely at the white, crumbling ceiling. My eyes shifted towards my friend. She was asleep, I always wondered how she slept so well, I sighed, my sleepy body froze as my eyes shifted back to the ceiling. I saw a shadow, Maybe I'm just tired, I thought.
My eyes slowly turned to Penny
"Penny, Penny, wake up I saw something..." I whispered.
"What?" She grumbled, her voice raspy and laced with sleep.
"I saw a shadow, it was on the ceiling."
"So what? It's a shadow, look," She replied, moving her arm up and down making a shadow on the wall, she turned, so her back was facing me. I sighed
"Whatever you say," I spoke groggily. I looked back on the ceiling and the shadow moved again, I thought of telling Penny, though I decided against it. My eyes closed as I went to sleep.
*2 hours later*
"RISE AND SHINE LADIES, GET BREAKFAST, AND GET TO YOUR MORNING CHORES!!!!" The headmistress screamed. I moaned along with my fellow orphans.
"Noooooooo! That was such a good dream. Pierogies, dancing corgis, it had it all!" Penny groaned.
"WAS THAT SASS RIN!" The headmistress shouted. Penny shook her head no. I sat up on my bed. Penny walked tiredly over to me.
"Coming?" She asked. I nodded.
"Yeah, I'll uh, meet you down there," I told her, turning towards the ceiling again, the shadow moved, but this time I followed it. The shadow moved out the window onto the roof, and into a forest, we were forbidden to go into. I decided not to follow any farther, because I was hungry. Not that what they serve here is good.

Penny was at our normal table in the corner, her eye was black and swollen, but her expression was blank, and numb. Three girls walked away slowly laughing. I snorted.
I ran over to Penny "Are you ok!?" She gave start, startled by my voice.
"This? Oh this is nothing!" She cooed.
"I'm gonna get her!" I said through a clenched jaw.
"Meg no, I'm fine really," I walked to Emillia and her posse, ignoring Penny. I turned her towards me violently, my fist balled, I grabbed the collar of her shirt, before I punched her square in the nose, I dropped the collar of her shirt and let her stumble. She fell to the ground, her posse walked towards me throwing punches but then something mysterious happened, the shadow appeared, and...Growled? I think? The girls then fell to the ground when a claw hit them, claw marks formed on their bodies, without killing them...
"Ummm...What just happened?" I questioned. Penny looked over at us, confusion covering her features, though a smile formed on her face.
I walked towards Penny
"Do you know what happened? Y-You saw that r-right?"
"Yeah, I saw it! That was amazing!"
"Yeah, but I could've done it myself," I stated folding my arms.
"Aw are you jealous." She replied, a smug smile crossing her lips.
I shrugged and pouted, "I saw it go to the forbidden forest... Do you think we should sneak out and follow it?" I asked.
"YES!" She yelled, her outburst startling everyone in the cafeteria, they all turned to stare at Penny. "Shhh" I shushed.

After our chores, we set off on our journey. I packed my stuff to go follow the shadow and pretended to be playing a board game out back with Penny. Penny jumped to reach the edge of the wall around the orphanage as I pushed her the rest of the way up. Next I followed up the ledge and over.
"Ok shadow thing lead us to your home..." I said. The shadow flew into the forest... I turned to Penny and looked at the smile on her face and laughed as we ran into the forest.
She began breathing heavily, "I...Should work out...More." She said, taking her inhaler out of her purse and taking two puffs. I laughed "Yeah... If...Only the...Head mistress...Would...Have us do... P.E class...Instead of...Pottery." I spoke.
We heard yelling far behind us, turning to see the head mistress yelling at us to come back while trying to climb the fence, after a short moment she fell to the ground, hard. Penny laughed at her stupidity, before running into a tree at full speed.
"I meant to do that!" She shouted after me, before standing and running after me, soon catching up. I laughed and stopped... I looked around, the trees sparkled, and shimmered. Penny, once again ran into a tree.
"Darn it!"
