He turned and looked at us before walking towards a flight of stairs. I followed him quickly wanting to get out of the center of attention. He took us down to a small hallway that had several small wooden doors on each side. It reminded me of the way the rooms were set up in the Titanic. He unlocked six doors and stood at the end of the hallways with his back facing a large grey door that had small windows in it.
"You'll be staying in these rooms for now," the man said.
"Dinner is at 9 and if you're late, it'll be cold." The man turned around and walked through the mysterious door, closing it tightly behind him.
I looked around at the boys and decided to take charge.
"Let's do this in proper order, please! Littluns are on one side and the rest are on the other side," I said confidently.
However, nobody moved. They stared at me with straight faces which caused my confidence to go down.
What would Piggy do? Think Ralph think!
I sighed and looked at the boys again.
"I know we got rescued but if we are just gonna stand here then we aren't gonna get anything done," I said getting a bit annoyed with the lack of listening that the boys were doing.
"Well well well look who still thinks he's in charge after we got off of that horrid island," a familiar voice said in the distance.
A couple of kids towards the back started to chuckle and then eventually all of them moved out of the way to reveal who it was. I rolled my eyes immediately seeing who had spoken.
"It's nice to see you again, Jack," I said more annoyed than before.
"Ralph I think you know who the real chief is so please let me take charge."
"I'm sorry Jack but you aren't fit to be a proper chief," I yelled at him.
Suddenly the hallway went dark and I was pushed against the door. I heard giggling in the distance and felt a hand present right beside my head.
"Say that again Ralph. Tell me I'm not fit to be the chief. I've been fit to lead that position since the day we stepped foot on that island but no, they had to choose you! They had to choose the one boy which was only concerned in keeping the fire lit," Jack yelled, making me flinch.
Suddenly the lights flickered on and a broad-shouldered blonde came walking down the hall towards us.
"This isn't the jungle mates," he said while pulling Jack away from me. "Stop acting like a bunch of bogans." He turned and looked at the littluns. "Seems you got yourself a couple of kiddiwinks down there. Best believe you get them sorted out and they'll take a lie down in no time. I certainly don't want to listen to you little buggers chuck a wobbly over some small problem you understand?"
The littluns giggled and nodded their heads. They seemed to like him more than anyone on this boat.
"Call me Ashton," he said smiling.
"I'm Ralph and this is Jack," I replied, forcing myself to smile.
Jack glared at me, looked at Ashton, and rolled his eyes.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Ralph and Jack. Behave you little savages," he chuckled while opening the large grey door and going inside.
I watched him walk by us feeling my heart starting to race knowing that once the doors closed, I would be alone with Jack.
I turned facing Jack, panic lightly spread across my face.
"I'm chief, you understand Ralph? If you still can't seem to realize you'll never win, then I'll make sure the rest of the way back is chaos," he whispered with pure anger in his voice.
I nodded and tried to get away from him so I could go to my room but I was quickly pushed back against the door.
"I mean it, Ralph," he looked deeply into my eyes.
I looked at him in fear, making sure not to lose the never-ending staring contest Jack had started. He let go of me and walked to his room without saying anything to any of the other boys. Even Roger was ignored by him.
