I sighed in relief that I was finally left alone by Jack. I walked into a smaller sized room that had a semi-squishy black cot, a small wooden desk, a closet, and a tiny bathroom. I laid down on the cot and stared at the wall starting to cry. We had finally been saved. That was something I never thought I would say especially after what went down on the island before we were found.
I must have fallen asleep because when I woke up, it was completely dark out. My entire room was pitch black. I groaned lightly and got up to turn on the lights. Once I had turned the lights on, I looked in the closet and found an extra set of clothing. I went into the bathroom with the clothes, cleaned myself up, and slipped on the clothes. They were a tad bigger than I expected them to be but it was much better than what I had on before. I left my room and trotted over to the mysterious door, nervous about what I would find on the other side of it. I knocked on the door a few times and waited for it to open.
A couple of minutes had passed by and I decided to try again thinking that they may not have heard the knocks. I pounded on the door a few times and immediately after, I heard the whistling of a soldier coming near me. The door opened up and I was flabbergasted by what I was witnessing. It was a rather large whitish-grey room with lots of tables spread throughout it. When you stepped into the room, the first thing you walked through was the kitchen which smelt of smoked ham and fresh bread. The countertops were filled with sweet treats, bowls of fresh fruit, newly baked bread, and cups of tea. Tonight was very special to all of the soldiers and us as well. It was the first night in months that they received such a splendid dinner fit for a king. It was also the first time in a long time that I and the evacuees have had real food instead of berries and meat. I snatched a piece of chocolate that had been sitting next to a bowl of fruit, shoved it in my pocket, and briskly walked out of the kitchen with a smirk plastered on my face.
I looked around trying to spot the other boys even though I still was iffy about being around them after what happened on the island. As I scanned the room, I met eyes with Jack once again. He was standing in the corner by Roger. I sighed and walked over to a table filled with younger soldiers, sat down next to one of them, and kept quiet. They were taking turns having an arm wrestle with each other. It was quite amusing especially when the smallest soldier beat the strongest one at the table. The arm wrestle tournament between all the guys at the table didn't last for very long thanks to a drunken general who smashed a bottle on someone's head. I didn't see it happen but I heard it pretty clearly to know that I needed to leave. I got up and ran out of the large room not thinking about the consequences I was about to face.
The upper deck wasn't a good place to escape to especially at night. The air was bitter and I was able to see the hot steam that came out of my mouth. I walked over to the front of the ship starting to shiver. My trembling hands reached into my pocket and pulled out the chocolate which had slightly melted in my pocket.
"This definitely won't be melted in a few minutes," I said letting out a slight chuckle.
I leaned against the edge of the ship watching the front rip through the waves like it was paper.
I popped a piece of chocolate into my mouth and looked up seeing the stars. It felt nice to be able to relax and not feel like I'm constantly getting hunted by Jack and his savages.
I heard a small noise come from behind me but I ignored it thinking it was the ship that made it. I popped another piece of chocolate in mouth starting to point out constellations I remember learning about.
I suddenly got an uneasy feeling and felt a pair of eyes watching me. I glanced behind me and seen darkness which caused me to gulp. A heard another noise again and turned around quickly, my heart starting to race
"W-w-who's there? Please, show yourself," I shouted, my body starting to shake.
Two black figures started walking towards me causing me to panic. Could I be hallucinating? Was this all in my head? I backed up until I was completely against the ship. I stared at the figures, terrified that I was gonna die.
    "Show yourself," I shouted louder.
The figures burst out laughing which left me confused. I realized who they were and took off running towards the back of the ship. Roger and Jack followed close behind trying to grab onto my shirt. We got to the back of the boat and I was slammed to the ground almost immediately knocking the wind out of me. I laid on the deck of the ship gasping for air looking up at Roger and Jack terrified. Roger had a smirk plastered on his face and Jack was emotionless.
    "W-w-what do y-y-you want?"
Roger held in his laughter and looked at Jack. Jack knelt in front of me, grabbed the collar of my shirt, and pulled me towards him.
"You aren't the leader anymore Ralph. Nobody is gonna listen to your orders," Jack said through gritted teeth.
"They won't listen to you either Jack. The only thing you know how to do right is set an entire island on fire and try to kill people. Haven't we experienced enough death already? First Simon, then Piggy, and now me? I don't know what happened to you Jack," I replied, rage starting to fill my body.
Jack looked at me with a straight face almost as if he didn't know what to say.
"You can let go of me," I said, rolling my eyes finally catching my breath.
Suddenly Jack drove his fist into my jaw causing me to yelp in pain. I held my face starting to scooch away from him.
    Don't be a coward, Ralph
I stood up breathing heavily.
