the upper moon demon, formerly known as kokushibo, has been defeated and did not hold back when fighting the strong-willed hashira; two souls ceased to exist.
there [y/n] laid on her knees, trying her best to cradle a certain black-haired individual whom she deeply cared for, his body had been sliced symmetrically in half. she did not know what to do, -- but when he weakly spoke, all she managed to escape was a choked sob.
sanemi was already next to her, yelling at the world in bedridden regret.
his body was crumbling like a demon's.
barely managing to speak a word, all [y/n] could do was let her painful expression take over and have tears roll down her blood-stained cheeks. her body was shaking on unwanted adrenaline, the cuts and bruises were numbed out by now. her blood coursing through her veins were burning, and she swore she saw some red in her vision, but interpreted it that it may have been the blood slowly soaking through the wooden floor.
at this moment, she truly felt as if the world had turned against her, wishing to reset it all or start over -- but that was thrown out right when she was snapped back into reality.
genya was slipping.
"...[y/n] ...sanemi--" a pause saved for silence as he weakly spoke, "i'm... sorry."
eyes widened from both perspectives. the screaming from his elder brother whom he had grown to admire did everything he could to keep him awake.
[y/n] could not allow herself to speak. she watched as both brothers exchanged their apologies and doubts. the tears did not stop spewing out from their eyes. then -- genya called out her name, everything seemed to slow down.
"...thank you... for being someone important to me... you mean so much to me... and i hope you realize that -- even... through our simple interactions, ...i became more comfortable... with you... by my side..."
[y/n]'s entire body trembled as she tried to look for warmth in his disintegrating hand, carefully attempting to give him a small squeeze -- but the dust collected onto her own partially bandaged ones. her heart fell deep -- and it cracked; her back felt ice cold, while her arteries pumped burning blood. the tears blurred her vision through this immense drowning sadness. seeing him die -- someone as important as him -- does not deserve an unworthy death.
then she spoke,
"genya, you by my side has only brought me happiness -- and i could never thank you enough, because it takes someone to love through those moments -- i felt that with you. from the deepest depths of my heart -- i love you."
genya tried his hardest to smile; he let tears fall down to the side of his nose, onto the floor, smothering -- combining with his blood.
he gently spoke,
"...i'm glad -- and to admit, i feel the same as well..."
[y/n] did not smile back, all she could feel was emptiness. genya's form slowly kept disintegrating as [y/n] continued to cry every last tear drop she could muster.
"i don't want you both... to die... -- and... my brother is... the nicest person... in... the world..."
genya closed his eyes as the last part of his face turned to ash -- disappearing into the atmosphere of the wooden chamber.
"no..."
[y/n]'s hands trembled where could have been genya's head. the disbelief led her gasping for air that caused her to let out a blood-curling scream. sanemi joined her mourning -- and [y/n] tightly gripped her hair as a few of her strands slowly lifted -- almost as if it glowed in a shade of orange, but then reverted back to its proper color. she cradled her head onto her knees, as she continued to let out screams of choked sobs. sanemi gripped onto genya's slayer uniform as he released curses onto the world.
both thought at what a waste it was to be so alone in this world.
