(Alex POV)
I get a text from James, saying he's invited me to dinner at his house.
Huh. He's never done that before. I like that he is always trying new things.
I smile as I finish up my last homework assignment.Maybe this year will be different. I've got alot of planning to do if it is.
I realize that my family doesn't like me for me, but I can't make a case against them. I have nothing.
I text James that I'll be there in a bit. I just need to freshen up a little.
My parents ask me where I'm going, but I just say "my car my rules. You aren't allowed. Sorry."
And walk out.
When I reach the car James' mom is already here. Well shit. That was fast. Finally someone has come to rescue me."I love that shirt!" She says beginning to reminisce about her old days. She tells me all about James' embarring moments. I just listen and stare out the window.
"Something wrong, baby?" She asks with a look of concern.
"I'm fine I guess..." I say, leaning against the window.
"No no, tell us what's wrong, maybe we can help?"
"It would make things weird, I can't... I'm sorry..." He says, trying to hold back tears.
"Here, let me," I say wiping his eyes.
For a moment we're just staring into each other's souls. I place a hand on his cheek. He looks at me unblinking, then looks at my lips.
"You have,.... rather dry lips, Alex.... may I....?"
I look into his eyes and smile.
Our first kiss together in the backseat of my mom's car. We were still best friends. But maybe something more?
I hope he quit that job of his... He doesn't get paid enough and everyone is giving him shit for being gay. What about his family? Has he told them? And what was their reaction?
