Toxic Promises

I told you to talk to me. I told you I’m here.
What would it take for you to hear my plea? To make sure you hear?
I cry for you. I hurt for you.
You know I care about you. I want to help you.
You promised and you broke it. You said you would quit.

Why did you do it?

I gotta worry about your welfare and what you take. Life isn’t fair but I live for your sake.
You may hate me, but that’s fine. In the end, your life won’t be on the line.
You and your boo will be happy again. I bet you’ll thank me then.
You made it this far. Yeah you will have scars.
That’s okay, I’ll be here today.
Tomorrow and forever, just call me whenever.

I’ll listen to you.

You tell me not to worry. That you will be okay.
I left in a hurry. My vision left in grey.
I didn’t want to worry. I didn’t want to stress.
Everything is blurry. Makes me want to feel less.
I feel so numb but I look so dumb.

Is this what I get?

I’m supposed to be angry. Not sad and betrayed.
I shouldn’t be keeping this brandy. I knew I shouldn’t have stayed.
Even without me you would’ve been caught.
At first, we argued and fought.

You promised not to leave.

Somehow we became siblings. I don’t know how it happened.
That was the beginning. Now I’m abandoned.
Your promises are toxic. They have no purpose.
I take it all in and move on. Tired of moving in circles.
You say it’s my fault. That I should’ve shut my mouth.

You shouldn’t have made toxic promises.
