CHAPTER 1: CADETS

"Neriah! Clean this place up, your sisters will be home any minute, you ungrateful child!" Lori my step-mother yells. I wonder what my father saw in her except from her beauty, I wonder a lot of things, it just comes normally. I smile at her as I walk to my step-sisters room.

I quickly made my step-sisters' beds and cleaned their room in records time. After doing it for eight years now, cleaning is like a second nature to breathing.

Just as I put their clothes in the basket, the door opens and they walk in. Miley and Riley who are as wicked as they can be, they call themselves the powerful double or the wonder twins as they call themselves here on Grimm.

"Well, well, well looks like the post man dropped garbage, we better call him back to pick you up" the light brown haired one says, Miley, Riley snickers in agreement but I smile. I know better than to speak back or offer them a reaction, I wouldn't want anymore beatings.

I deserve what they do to me. I started it all when I lost control and almost killed them, this is karma.

My name is Neriah Minellar, am an orphan as far as I know; my dad disappeared eight years ago and my mother is still a mystery of life itself. But before disappearing, Dad married Lori who despised me because I would always be first in my father's life, but once he left, everything changed.

I am been treated like a servant which I do not like but they give me what I need to survive; they take me to school so that no one could suspect what they do to me and give me oat-meal so that I wouldn't die of hunger.

I walk to my room if you can call the basement that, but I like it; I have a cozy bed, a lamp and a punching dummy to practice my powers.

On Grimm, everyone has powers, there are six kingdoms on the planet Grimm ruled by kings and queens.

The first one is the kingdom of vampires and ice freezing powers named Blood flower ruled by King Darius and Queen Nina with their sons Christian and King and their daughter Ruth.

The second kingdom of wolves and fire where I live is called Anthurium ruled by King Roman and queen Randa with their children Xander and Amanda the power twins.

The third kingdom of ferals and dragons called Azalea ruled by King Nicholas and Queen Ciara.

The fourth kingdom of Angels and creation magic called Adonis ruled by King Maxwell and Queen Violet and their adorable child Princess Hilda.

The fifth kingdom of witches called Aconitum ruled by King Peter and Queen Lucinda with their three daughters and four sons.

And the sixth kingdom of Elves and Elementals called Asclepius ruled by King Seth and Queen Aria with their children.

Every year the kingdoms host the 'Grimm games' where candidates are sent to Cryphus a isolated planet next to Grimm, to compete for a gem which amplifies a kingdoms powers. Last year the vampire kingdom won because prince Xander was going through some personal issues. But this year, something feels different.

"Hi Neri!" my best friend yells running towards me in all his glory carrying my favorite milkshake 'chocolate' "hi handsome" I greet him with my usual smile on my face grabbing the milk shake from him "hi gorgeous" he says dropping his ripped arm around my shoulders giving me his signature smirk "what's up?" I ask him slurping the milkshake.

"Nothing much, " he trails off and I frown " just packing for the Grimm games" he finishes and I spit out the milkshake gapping at my friend "Congratulations Shawn!" I squeak hugging the giant in front of me "and King Roman has decided to pick five by himself and I finally found a move that's better than the light of Neriah" he says and I laugh.

'Light of Neriah' my signature move that only Shawn knows about and he thinks it's the coolest thing he has ever "oh really, care to demonstrate?" I ask and he nods making his dark straight hair fall above his glasses, I tip toe and push them back make him tense "come on, let's see this move you picked up"

I sit on a bench and watch him closely, he flexes his shoulders thereby triggering his fire power and you can notice from the glowing orange eyes and the sound of fire cracking erupting from his body. He does a back flip while releasing a fire ball which hits one of the dummies lined up. I clap my glove covered hands together "Bravo Shawn....for trying" I say wiping my imaginary tears making him laugh.

"That took me three weeks and you are saying I tried, okay show me the light of Neriah" he insists putting his hands up in surrender, I stand up removing the gloves and walk to the center of the gym. I close my eyes and break my pinky finger triggering my fire power even though its painful;, I take a step back and ran then do a front flip thereby releasing a large flame shaped like a lion and it roars literally.

As the flame reaches the once closed doors, I stretch my hand out making it vanish before it hits anyone "Ms Minellar, what is the meaning of this?!" Principle hank yells and I cringe at how much trouble am in right now, he walks in with the royal guards behind him protecting the king himself.

Shawn and I quickly bow our heads "sorry Principle Hank, it won't happen again" I say grabbing my gloves and bag, just as we reach the doors a deep and powerful voice speaks "what is your name?", I turn to see king Roman standing in front of me " Neriah Minellar, your majesty" I say with my smile plastered on my face like always.

And what he says next makes my smile almost flatter" Neriah, I have chosen you to be part of the Grimm games as of now, you are a cadet"
