Hello! So, you guys actually like my story! Yay! ^.^ Here's chapter 2! :)

Melissa’s P.O.V

It was today. The reapings were today. I was so nervous, but not for myself. I was more worried about Amy and Tina. If either of them get picked, I don’t know what I’ll do. I would prefer for me to get picked then ever have them in danger of getting killed. I went downstairs and saw Tina and Amy already eating. Tina gently pushed a plate towards me. “Here you go Mel.” I shook my head.

“I’m not that hungry Tina. Really.” She gave me a concerned look.

“Are you sure?...” I nodded.

“Yes. Let’s save the rest of the fruit and plants we have for tonight. I’ll make us salads for dessert after we have venison and bread.” The girls nodded in agreement. In District 12, if your children or family members were not reaped, your family had a big feast at the end of the day. Well, as much food as we had anyway.

“We should probably get going. The reapings are in half an hour.” Amy spoke up. I looked at the clock.

“She’s right. Let’s get upstairs.” I said. We quickly went upstairs and got ready. Mine was a simple dark blue, with a belt around the middle. I put on the dress, then one of my ‘nicer’ boots. I braided my hair down the side then headed downstairs. Amy had a nice light brown dress with boots, and Tina’s dress was more of a dark purple. We all had a similar, simple design. District 12 wasn’t known for having pretty dresses and being fancy. “Are you ready?” I asked.

“I think so,” Tina said nervously. Amy just nodded, unable to speak. I smiled reassuringly.

“Let’s go then.” I said and we walked to the center of town, where a crowd was already beginning to gather. A few Peacekeepers forcefully took us to the registering area, where they take a blood sample from all the tributes and write down your name.  The three of us went in line, the took our blood samples and wrote down our name, then we went to our age groups. All three of us were in the 15-18 age group, with me being the oldest. 17. Time seemed to fly by as more and more people signed in and went to their age group. Before I knew it, everyone turned silent, and Effie Trinket walked to the microphone of the stage.

“Welcome everyone to the 80th Hunger Games! May the odds be ever in your favor!” She said cheerfully in that stupid Capitol accent. The audience was not amused by this stupid phrase she said every year. “Alright...Ladies first!” She said and walked to giant glass bowl with the female tributes names. I held my breath.

“Please don’t pick Amy or Tina. Please don’t pick Amy or Tina. Please, please, please…..” Effie pulled out a slip of paper and walked back to the microphone. She cleared her throat and read clearly, “Melissa Scarlet, to the stage please.” My eyes widened. I was chosen. I was going in the Hunger Games. Tina and Amy both took my arms with tears in their eyes.

“No!” They both screamed. “You can’t take her!” I teared up listening to their pleas.

“Guys, just let me go.” I said, still absorbing what was happening. Two Peacekeepers came up and pried their hands off of my arms.

“No! I volunteer!” Tina screamed. I stared at her in disbelief.

“No Tina! I can’t let you go in the Games! I can’t!” I said. Now I was the one starting to cry. “Just let me go. I’ll be fine.” I said as one of Peacekeepers pulled me away, and I walked up to the stage. Effie seemed upset by what just happened, but why would she care? I’m going to die either way. The audience was in shock. It was like Katniss and Prim all over again. Effie pulled out a slip of paper. “Rye Hunter!” Rye. My best friend. He cannot be killed….

“No Skylar!” He cried out. I looked down. Skylar, his little sister was running up to the stage screaming. “I volunteer! I volunteer as tribute! I don’t care if there won’t be a male tribute for District 12! Just please don’t take Rye!” She cried. “Take me instead!”

“Er….Very well then.” Effie said as Skylar went up to the stage. “What’s your name dear?”

“Skyler Hunter.” She said. She didn’t even look scared. Effie smiled.

“Well Skylar Hunter, welcome to the Hunger Games!” She just nodded and stood next to me. “These should be an interesting year for District 12! Two female tributes!”

“Shut up, Effie.”  I thought. “You aren’t making this any easier for any of us.” Everything seemed to happen very fast again. Me and Skylar were escorted to the rooms where the tributes got to say a final goodbye to their families. I sat down and waited for my sisters to enter the room. The door suddenly burst open and Tina and Amy walked in, with Peacekeepers right by the door. We didn’t say anything. We just immediately pulled each other into a hug.

“I can’t believe this.” Tina finally mumbled.

“I know.” I said. Amy looked up at me.

“Y-You’ll win, won’t you Melissa?” She asked. I thought about this for a moment. Would I? Would I return home to District 12?

“Yes. I promise you that I will do what I can to win.” I said. A peacekeeper came in and said, “Alright. Your time is up.” Amy and Tina hugged me one more time and they left. I followed the peacekeeper to the train that would take me and Skylar to the Capitol.  I waved to Amy and Tina as the train started to move away….

I’ll come home to them. If it’s the last thing I’ll ever do.
