Picking your mom up at the airport didn't go too badly, besides from the pounding headache you had that even Advil couldn't fix. She made your entire car smell like alcohol the second she sat down, but you decided against starting a fight with her about it. You had to be crazy to think the lady who used Fireball as coffee creamer wouldn't have had a couple of drinks on her flight.

So far, the day was going pretty decent. You talked about work and she shared the latest neighborhood drama that you missed hearing about. It all went wrong when you went to the bathroom and left your phone on the counter.

You originally weren't going to bring up Spencer to her, you knew she would insist on meeting him and you weren't ready for that. She, of course, had other plans.

When you came out she had your phone in her hand with an ecstatic look on her face and you already knew why. Your lock screen was a photo of Spencer sitting across from you in a cafe. You had taken it when you brought him out for coffee before work on his birthday.

"When were you going to tell me you were seeing someone y/n?" She said it in a happy tone but you could tell she was upset you kept Spencer from her. But that's how it always had been, until a relationship got serious you never thought it was worth bringing up to her.

"Nothings official right now mom, we didn't even start pursuing it till maybe a week ago," you took your phone back from her to see a text from Spencer.

Spencer: How's everything going with your mom?

y/n: Surprisingly well so far.

"Why don't you tell me about him?" You nodded your head and sat down on the barstool next to her and talked about Spencer. She actually thought you were joking when you said he was in the FBI. You told her about all the coincidences that led to you two meeting, your mom was such a hopeless romantic she ate the story up saying you and Spencer were 'meant to be.' You could only dream that she was right.

It seemed like she approved of Spencer from what you shared about him, but she liked all of your boyfriends, she respected your taste in men.

"Well, will I ever get to meet your FBI boyfriend?" You cringed at the thought, nobody was ready for that interaction.

You were trying to think of a way to tell her no that she couldn't argue against when you were saved by an incoming message on your phone.

Spencer: I don't wanna intrude on your time with your mom, but do you think you'll be able to slip away and meet me anytime soon?

Dammit that's right, you told Spencer you two needed to talk about things, he was probably freaking out thinking he did something to upset you.

"What's wrong?" Your mother questioned upon seeing the worried look on your face.

"Oh um Spencer just said he's leaving for a case so it looks like you won't be able to visit him this trip, sorry mom," you hated lying to her but it was a better option than telling her she couldn't meet him and that you wanted to get away from her to see him. You shot her a sympathetic look to really sell the whole thing.

"How about we go get something to eat? I'm starving," you nodded at her suggestion and discussed the plans for the afternoon.

You guys decided on going by a local cafe you loved to get something to eat and then touring a bit around town.

Lunch went well, your mom told you all the gossip from back home just like she used to over the phone in your early stages of college, it was definitely something you missed. But after a while, you either had no time to chat or when you would she was slurring every other word. Right before you left the cafe your phone had died but it didn't bother you, you wanted to enjoy the time with your mom without any distractions.
