You Can't Hide Forever

*a week later*

I sigh as I lay on my bed and stare at the ceiling. I tap on the wall and smile when I hear Sam tap on the other side. "Go to bed Nyx!" He shouts. "You go to bed." I laugh. Sam and I have gotten pretty close over the past week. We spend most of our time outside or in the attic. I stand up and look out my window at the rising sun. I decide to give up on sleep and get dressed. That's one of the things I hate most about this place. I can never seem to fall asleep. I smile when I hear my door unlock. I step into the hallway and look over at Sam's door. I sit on the floor across from his room and wait for him to come out. "Hey Sammy." I say as he opens his door. He jumps and I laugh. "You're gonna give me a heart attack one day." He mumbles. I laugh as I stand up and we walk down to the canteen. We get our food before sitting down. "I've been meaning to ask this. What's with the necklace?" Sam questions. "Oh my mom gave it to me about a month before the incident." I explain. "So it's kinda like Dani and her necklace." He says. I nod and quickly finish my food. "You're gonna make yourself puke if you keep eating so fast." He chuckles. I shrug as I stand up and give my plate to Roberto. I laugh a little as he grabs my plate and dances away. "Hey I'm gonna head out to the grave yard." I tell Sam before walking to the door. "Ok. I'll be out there in a minute." He says. I nod and head out side.

*Sam's POV*
I finish my food and hand my tray to Roberto. "Hey what's up with you and Nyx?" He asks. "What do you mean?" I question. "You haven't left her side sense she got here." He laughs. "We're just friends dude." I sigh before walking out of the room. I head outside and walk over to the giant concrete block. I put my harness on and clip the rope onto it.

*Nyx's POV*

I sit under one of the trees by the graveyard and watch Sam take off. He flies in a circle a few times before I notice him lose control. "Sam!" I yell as he hits the concrete. I push myself off the tree and rush towards him. He groans as he sits up. "Sammy are you ok?" I ask as I kneel next to him. "Yeah I'm fine." He mumbles. I reach my hand out and wipe the blood from under the cut on his cheek. He winces and pulls away. "Sorry." I sigh. He stands up and goes to take off again but I stop him before he can. "Maybe you should take a break. Come sit with me." I suggest as I put my hand on his arm. He huffs and nods. He quickly takes the harness off and we walk back to the tree. We both sit down and I look up at the sky. "That one looks like a goat." He says as he points to the cloud. I look to the cloud and smile. "It does." I say. "That one looks like a bat." I tell him as I point to the cloud next to it. "It's me and you." Sam jokes. I laugh as I look over at him. "Am I the bat?" I ask. He nods and smiles at me. "Oh you two are so cute." Illyana teases as she walks over to us. "What do you want Illy?" Sam asks. "It's time for group. Reyes sent me to get you." She tells us. "Alright. We'll be there in a minute." I say. She walks away and Sam and I stand up. We walk into the building and head to the group room. We sit down and Dr. Reyes asks the same question she asks everytime. "What are your abilities and why-" "Are you here. Yeah yeah we get it." I sigh. I hear Sam snicker as Reyes glares at me. "We aren't going to get anywhere if you guys don't talk." She groans. "Fine I'll talk, but not about that." I tell her. "How about we talk about you and Sam?" Roberto suggests. "What do you mean?" I ask. "I mean, you two haven't left each other's sides sense you got here." He says. I shrink into my chair realizing that I've become attached to someone way too easily again. "What does it matter?" Sam asks. Roberto shrugs and Reyes sighs. "You can all go now." She mumbles. We walk out and Sam and I head back outside. I sigh as I sit down in the grass. "Are you ok?" He questions. "Yeah." I mumble. "Don't lie to me." He mutters as he sits next to me. "What's wrong?" He asks. "I got too attached too quickly again." I explain. "Why does it matter?" He questions. I shrug and Sam sits down next to me. I smile as he wraps his arm around me. I sigh as I look up at the sky and see a ripple go through the barrier. "We'll get out of here. I promise." Sam says as he pulls me closer to him. I rest my head on his shoulder and close my eyes.
