Zombie Mom

Chapter 1

When the shit hit the fan the current craze was Zombies. You would think with shows like 'The Walking Dead' and 'Z Nation' that people would be more prepared. Hell, even the movie 'Zombieland' gave you a checklist to go by during the apocalypse, but noooo...It just goes to show you how stupid people are in real life.
I'm a 31 year old mom of 2 girls who are 13 and 7. We were currently living with my parents when shit went south. Too old to be living back at home, I know, but I had just made a major change in my life and was starting over. I had been with baby daddy for 14 years and decided one day I wasn't happy so I packed up the kiddos and off we went. Mommy and daddy (well, step mommy) welcomed us with open arms. Ha! I call bullshit because really it was like 'pack y'all's shit because you're moving in with us'. so here we are.
So when TSHTF (the shit hit the fan), dad and Sherie (stepmom) are on a cruise to cancun. Thirteen, Seven and myself are just lounging around the house all week. All throughout the week we've been hearing stories on the news about how the flu for this season is resistant to the flu vaccine. I haven't bothered with a flu shot since I worked for the surgery center a few years ago and they were mandatory. 13 and 7 have never had one. I'm just not the type of mom to jump up and take my kids to the doctor every time they get a fever or sniffles unless it lasts longer than a week.
"So what's the point of the flu shot?" 13 asks during a commercial.
"It's just another way for the pharmaceutical companies to make money by scaring old people into thinking they're going to die of the flu without one." I reply back to her.
7 is, as usual, on the verge of tears thinking of how the needle will feel going into her arm on the off chance I decide to make her actually get the vaccine.
So the news is back on going on about the most recent police involved shooting or drug deal gone wrong, leaving one man with no drugs and some poor black baby who got shot in the crossfire. I like to read the news going along the bottom of the screen because it's faster and you get more info. one thing catches my attention but I don't see all of it so I rewind (gotta love the hopper).
