Nya had never heard such a serious tone come from her mother since the Time Twins fisacso. Every time her and her brother came around, she was usually in a calm and sometimes flustered (Becuase of her husband) mood. Like as if the two were still 5 and 3 year olds, and they were still confused and completely oblivous to the literal terrifying world that they seemed to get pulled into at such a young age.
The new water master swallowed a nervous lump in her throat and cleared it. "W-What do you mean?" Her voice was trembly, a bit nervous of what woud happen next.
Maya sighed shakily, she knew that Nya wouldn't remember this, but Ray had a clear memory of the whole two months.
"When you were a few months old, a few weeks out of the hospital, I was told for my last mission as a elemental master I was told to go in the Ocean..for good. Not just a warning for the future before you were alive.."
"B-But what about Kai?" Ray said, gesturing to the almost two-year-old asleep peacefully on the couch. Maya nodded and clutched his hand gently, with a light squeeze for comfort as a reply. "Do I have to leave him?" The woman asked.
The older man looked at the two stressed adults and sighed. He didn't want to seperate the two apart, they were literally meant for each other.
He nodded.
Maya moved Ray's hand to her stomach. The male rubbed her back with his spare hand and calmed her. "What about.."
Wu cut her off with his own solution, hoping that this would calm their nerves. "Once your second child is born, and you've spent a few weeks bonding with her, you may leave on your journey." He explained, then noticing the couple's relieved faces and eventually weak smiles.
Maya looked at her son and then frowned again. "But what about Kai..?" The boy was extremely clingy to his mother, and tried to be with her everywhere at every time of the day, something that Ray got jealous off. Kai's basically an attention bug.
"What do you mean? Kai will stay with Ray and your daughter when she is born and he'll have to wait until you come back."
Maya felt tears burn her eyes. She glanced over at Kai again and bit her lip. "Kai is attached to me, h-he can't live without me."
The sensei felt bad. He did not want to tear the family apart when they only have been whole for weeks, but it wasn't his choice. Maya had to go, and there was no buts.
"W-Wow, mom I-I'm so sorry.." Nya choked out, trying to hide in her own emotions and questions about her mom leaving somewhere for what was presumed to be months after Nya was expected to get back from the hospital. She placed her hand on her mother's shoulder and swallowed again.
Maya smiled weakly and shook her head. "It's not your fault, Nya. It was no one's fault but fates." She mumbled, staring out into the morning sun, that held such a good mood that rained on the rest of Ninjago.
But sadly, the happiness today would only be replaced with Police calls, interviews, more searching, possible evidence, and just pain. Pain and worry about losing family once again.
Nya brought her knees up to her chin and held her shins in place so she did not fall off the edge of her bed. Her brows furrowed as her mind pondered for a few seconds. "Wait.." Maya turned around and saw her daughter in a very confused state, trying to put the pieces together for something that not even she knew at the moment.
"If I was born too early, but then got home two months later..did you spend time with me before you left?" Nya asked, hoping that her mother didin't leave Nya with her husband and son and then left a few hours after. Becuase if that was the case, then her heart shattering would be the reason she'd not bother with this missing person stuff.
