A frightful Halloween night

It is the night of Halloween and the children are out trick or treating.

I have turned all the lights off to make it look like I am not home. It is not that I dislike Halloween, I just really do not like excited, screaming kids.

Right now, it is almost midnight and I am watching a horror movie.

In the movie, there is a dead soul at the door, when all of a sudden, my doorbell rings.

I jump. 'God damn it, these stupid kids. They scared the hell out of me. Can't they see that I am not interested in this stupid trick or treating shit... Who cares, they will leave again in a minute', I think, turning my attention back to the movie, when the doorbell goes again.

"Seriously", I shout out, extremely annoyed.

I head to the door and tear it open in anger, to find... NOTHING.

I carefully step out and look down the street. It is empty, not a single soul is to be seen.

"Oh, really funny", I call out into the night, imagining some stupid teenagers hiding in some bush, laughing at me looking all confused.

'Whatever', I think and am just about to close the door, when suddenly something catches my eye.

I look at it closely. It is a black lock of hair, as black as the night, lying on the doormat.

Somebody was definitely at my door. I know that for a fact, because I had left the house in the afternoon and there was no lock of hair lying there then.

Quickly, I decide to clean the lock of hair away. Then I close the door.

Just as I am about to head back to the sofa, the doorbell rings a third time.

'This just can't be real.'

I storm back to the door and tear it open. But to my surprise there is still nobody there.

I decide to not give it any more thought and am just about to walk back inside the house, when I see another lock of hair, the same colour as the one beforehand, lying on the doormat.

'What the hell? I just got rid of that...'

I take it and throw it in the bin.

In this moment, the doorbell goes anew.

This time I rush to the door, ready to catch whoever is trying to scare the crap out of me.

Nobody again, except another lock of hair like the ones before.

Scared, I quickly shut the door, leaving the lock where it is. Suddenly something catches my eye in the mirror. I look closely and see that there is a bold patch on my head, where I have seemingly lost some hair. Frightened, I realise that those black locks were mine.

How did they get there? Who has been ringing the doorbell?

Just then I wake up from the doorbell ringing. I must have fallen asleep during the film. Thank god it was just a dream. Or was it?
