"fuck"

walking through the park, spencer cursed himself. he was almost never late, always annoyingly punctual. he'd not even had chance to have coffee. he felt like death.

dodging morning joggers, bicycle riders and dogs was not on his to-do list, however having missed the metro by mere seconds he was forced to endure his idea of hell.

he'd slept in so late it wasn't even really morning anymore.

he almost swore aloud when he felt something collide with his legs, accidentally sending it backwards. when he caught glimpse of what — who he'd knocked over he did swear.

"shit!"

the child didn't cry, somehow. instead he stood up, dusting himself off. spencer wondered if he was lost or just weird.

"hey little man, where's your mommy?"

the boy shrugged his shoulders. okay, the kid was definitely lost.

"who are you here with then buddy?"

again, he shrugged. great. was there even a point attempting to get to work?

"where were you before you bumped into me?"

he pointed towards the park. bingo.

"okay, should we go back to the park and see if we can find your mommy?"

the boy nodded and grabbed spencer's hand, leading him up the cobbled park path. almost instantly a shrill voice called out,

"joey!"

it was the girl from the museum, although this time she looked a lot less calm. she ran towards the two, crashing the small boys body into hers.

"oh my god, oh my god, thank god you're okay, your mom would have slaughtered me"

once she was sure she'd successfully glued the boys body to her with how tight she held him, she turned to his 'saviour' a look of surprise cast over her when she saw spencer.

"it's spencer, right?

spencer nodded and the two shared a smile. iola dropping joey down to the ground, but not out of her sight.

"i hope this isn't too awkward but-"

before spencer could question it she quickly encased him in a hug, toes risen as she locked her arms around neck.

"sorry, i just — thank you so much for finding him"

detaching herself from him, she gave another smile.

"it's okay, don't worry about it"

it was then spencer realised, shit, this was probably her son. thank god he'd not just left the kid and went to work.

a silence overtook them, a slightly awkward one, until iola spoke again.

"oh my god, do you have work? i'm so sorry if this has made you late i hone-"

spencer interrupted her, patting her shoulder lightly.

"i don't, it's okay, even if i did i wouldn't have just left him"
