Chapter Five

A few months had passed. It was now mid-December and snow was falling. The disappearances have stopped but Lacey and Kate felt like it was too good to last. The towns mood had changed more people were out and about. To celebrate Christmas the town mayor decided that he will throw a festival in the town centre.
No one in Lacey and Kates class was in the mood to work today but then they got some good and bad news. Mrs Collins was ill today the principal announced through the pa system. The good new was that there would be a sub so the work would be easier and the bad was that the teacher was sick as Mrs Collins was a good teacher.
The sub walked into the class. Her hair was long and dark red, she was wearing a dark red dress that matched her hair and her eyes were a dark blue. She went straight to the whiteboard and wrote her name. when she was finished some of the class gasped in shock.
“you’re that physio’s Jakes twin sister” one of the male students shouted from the back.
“YOU WILL RAISE YOUR HAND IN MY CLASSROOM” She yelled at the boy. “besides my brother unfortunately was a victim of bullying he was forced to do what he did” she added calmly. Fred laughed under his breath.
“you boy down there is there problem” she looked at Fred with such obvious hatred that the whole class knew he was in for a bad time. His former friends laughed at him, but Mrs Collins ignore them and walked over to Fred’s desk.” I said do we have a problem” she said in a demanding voice.
Fred stood up. He points at his scared face. “does this look like a problem” he shouted right in the teachers face spit went flying everywhere.
The teacher wiped her face and lean in and whisper something into Fred’s ear. He went from anger to looking scared in a flash. Fred fell into his seat and Mrs Collins went back to the front. She then wrote on the smaller whiteboard detention for Fred Homes. Afterwards she gave the class some comprehension questions and returned to her desk.
At the end of class, she walks around the class. To see if they all done there work anyone who has not finished will also get detention. This was unfair for Fred as his injuries that her brother gave him did not allow him to write fast.
“Mr Homes that’s another detention” Barked Mrs Collins.
“that’s not fair” Lacey shouted over to her teacher.
Mrs Collins just smile and gave her a detention.” That’s two-lunch time detentions for you two” she mockingly said as she pointed to Lacey and Fred.
It was home time. Lacey met Kate at Lacey’s locker. When they walked past Fred’s the seen him pinned up by his underwear. Surrounded my laughing students. Kate and Lacey helped him down. Some of the crowed began shouting things like are they you girlfriends and oh my god he had to be saved by girls.
“ignore them they will be gone tomorrow” Fred said under his breath as he barged past the girls.
“what if he’s serious” Lacey asked Kate with concern.
“don’t worry” Kate replied with a smile on her face. “besides, we got a match tonight to prepare for” Kate added as her and Lacey walked to the girls changing rooms. Jessica the captain of the school’s women’s team marched up to Lacey. “your relationship with that freak Fred isn’t going to affect your game is it” she asked with her arms folded and looking at Lacey as if she was above her.
“he isn’t my boyfriend but stop calling him a freak” she answered bitterly
Lacey did not really let Jessica get to her as she knew she was better than her at football. After their team talk, they walked to the pitch the night sky was clear so all that they could see in the night sky was stars and satellites. It was coming up to halftime the score was two to nil to the home side.
After another pep talk, they were back on the field. Kate ran towards goal but the defender slide and tackled her. Kate fell to the ground screaming in pain as she held her foot. Play was paused so the nurse could check on her. Kate Tried to walk but fell back down again.
After Kate was subbed the opposing team scored two goals within ten minutes. Which made the home team play more carefully. Lacey finally found away pass the defenders and was running towards goal as Michelle the sub made a good long pass that landed just in front of Lacey as she got into the box and shot. The ball went into the top corner. That was the final shot of the game and the Home side won by three goals to two.
That night Lacey did not celebrate with her team as she went to the hospital with Kate. Kate had to stay in overnight as her test results showed that she has a broken ankle. “Thanks for waiting with me “Kate said holding Lacey’s hand tightly.
“Obviously ill always be by your side” Lacey said smiling at Kate. Just then Kate’s mum walked in with her husband. She gave Lacey a hug and kissed Kate’s forehead repeatedly. Lacey offered to get everyone drinks. She walked pasted an open room were Mrs Collins was shouting as usual to a man that was all bandaged up. She was saying how he deserved to me in that bed and how dare he raise a fist to her.
Lacey rushed away before she was seen. Lacey did not want to end up like here husband. Lacey was now dreading what was in store for her and Fred tomorrow at detention.
