Aoba accepted the drink and downed it in a single sip. The others looked at him, mouths agape.
"So, are all humans as attractive as you three?" Aoba asked, wiping his mouth and handing the bottle back to Noiz.
"I'm actually the only human here," Noiz said," Koujaku is a vampire and Clear is an automaton."
"Oh, like a robot! But what's a vampire?" Aoba asked, walking towards Noiz's main house without even thinking. The rest followed.
"I drink blood, any blood I can get my hands on really. I make it a rule to be nonviolent. I can go out in sunlight, but need to be covered. Silver will kill me, as will a stake through my heart," Koujaku replied. He'd always wanted an excuse to say something like that.
The men entered Noiz's living room, which was pretty minimalist. A comfy chair, a couch, a coffee table, a TV, and a bookshelf that was overflowing. Nothing adorned the slate gray walls.
"Wow!" Aoba said, "that sounds badass!"
"Really? You're not scared?" Koujaku asked, licking his fangs dramatically. Noiz rolled his eyes and suppressed a laugh.
"No. I figure you won't run the risk of drinking my blood because I'm an alien here. I could poison you. If anything you should be scared of me," Aoba winked at the dark samurai. Koujaku just laughed.
"Anyway, there's more important questions to be asked," Noiz eyed Koujaku, "like how can we understand each other?"
"Simple really," Aoba replied, "before my ship crashed, I was downloading all the files I had on Earth into my brain. I can mostly understand and speak your Earth language. But not much else, really."
"I see," Noiz said, reclining back in his seat.
"Here! I can lend you some more information to help you if you want! I can upload it to you," Clear said helpfully, perching on the arm of the couch. Aoba looked at him, eyes wide.
"Really? That'd be so cool!" He replied.
"Okay, how do you download stuff onto your brain?" Clear asked.
"Well, being an automaton...I think the easiest way in this case would be a kiss," Aoba shrugged. Clear blushed while Noiz and Koujaku stared at Aoba, brows creased.
"Oh, you gotta be kidding me," Koujaku muttered.
"What?" Aoba asked "With the way my species works, it's the quickest and most efficient way of transferring data!"
"Interesting," Noiz said, bedazzled eyebrow raised and an evil smirk on his lips.
"Come on, Clear, don't be shy!" Aoba winked. Clear stood up from his perch and crossed the short distance to the blue haired alien. Aoba gently caressed the automaton's face before connecting their lips. This dragged on for many, many seconds. Koujaku loudly cleared his throat.
"I'm going to grab another beer," Koujaku said, standing up. Noiz pushed him back into his seat.
"You sit there, you're still recovering," Noiz commanded, getting up and strolling out of the room.
   "Recovering? What happened?" Aoba asked.
"Got sliced trying to beat up the hunter that killed my covenmate. He was like a brother to me," Koujaku explained, keeping his eyes firmly on the thick steel gray carpet.
   “Coven?” Aoba asked.
“Yeah. It means a group of vampires,” Koujaku clarified.
“Ah,”Aoba nodded, leaning back in his seat, “so there’s humans that actively try to kill vampires?”
“Yeah,” Koujaku said, “not just vampires. Werewolves, demons, fae, ghosts. Humans naturally fear what they don’t know and often react in unthinking violence.” The golden eyed alien’s brow creased.
“Shouldn’t they be excited about the unknown? After all, this planet is young and intelligent life on this planet even younger. You have so so much of the universe left to explore, and that doesn’t fill you with intense curiosity?” Aoba leaned forward.
“Nope,” Noiz said, returning with the beer, “most people just prefer to carry on with their blissful, ignorant lives. And besides, curiosity usually costs money, so it’s too much of a hassle, really,” the pierced tech genius rolled his eyes.
“Seriously? What the hell is wrong with this planet?” Aoba flopped onto the floor dramatically.
“It’d be a shorter list to tell you what wasn’t,” Koujaku said, taking a beer from Noiz. That’s when the vampire samurai realized he hadn’t heard a peep out of his favorite tin man.
“Hey, you awake over there?” Koujaku ran his hand in front of Clear’s face.
“Oh, sorry. Sometimes I just zone out. Noiz calls it my screensaver mode,” Clear said, sitting up straighter.
“That’s so cute!” Aoba grinned. Clear blushed yet again.
“So,” Noiz said, “that pretty much sums up our situation. Why don’t you tell us about yours?”
