Chapter Two - Unedited
Zuri
I was certain it is what they meant about the past coming back to haunt you.
My head was spinning with a lot of conspiracy theories as I took in Amir in front of me. What if he was working with my sister? What it was all a trap, and he had fooled Gedeon in thinking he can trust him? I mean, I killed the man, and it made no sense why he would want to help me.
Theo, Alex, and Everly apparently also felt the same. They had jumped in front of me at the mention of my sister.
"Relax," Amir said, taking in the three demons in front of me. "If I wanted to hurt you, I would have done it a long time ago."
"Why should I trust you?"
"Gedeon trusted me," he offered.
"You could've had him fooled." Bea pointed out.
He let out a soft chuckle, "I doubt it. Death is many things, but a fool. I have known him for far too long- even before he was an angel- for him not to pick up on that." He explained.
"What you mean before he was an angel?" I asked. From what I know he has always been the angel of Death.
"I mean he wasn't always an angel. That's his story to tell, though." He told me.
I was curious now, if Gedeon hadn't been an angel in the very beginning, what was he? Clearly Amir wasn't going to answer me, so I let it go, and focused on him.
"How do I know you don't want revenge for what happened back then?" I asked him. My sister is still after me because of that.
"Because you saved my son and did me a favor," he said sincerely. "I was miserable. If you didnt kill me I would have taken my own life."
I didn't remember any of that. Hell, I don't even remember the man back then. I was relieved to see that he harbored no bad feelings towards me and everything inside me said I could trust him.
"Well, I am still sorry." I apologized anyway.
He gave me a slight nod, "you should all come inside. I have a feeling we'll be getting unexpected visitors." His eyes darted around the forest, but it was too late I could feel demons materialize all around us.
"Uriel." I whispered as I saw the familiar demons.
I felt my heart beat frantically inside my chest as he appeared with Sam looking all smug. I heard Amir utter some words under his breath, but I couldn't catch what he was saying.
"Long time no see." He beamed at me.
"I can't say I'm happy to see you." I was glad my voice sounded stronger than I felt. It was still a traumatic experience seeing them. I wondered if Lucifer was not far behind them.
"Don't worry, the boss is not with me." It must have been the look in my eyes that gave away fear for his boss. "He does send his regards, though."
We were incredibly outnumbered. I could count twenty demons from where I was standing. I wasn't even sure my magic could hold them all back.
"Tell him I'm coming for him." I said confidently.
"We'll see about that," he smirked. "Finish them." He ordered his demons.
I don't know what happened. One minute they were charging at us and the other they all disappeared. Not by the blinding light that Uriel usually disappears with, but they just disappeared.
"What the...?" Theo breathed.
"Now, can we get inside," Amir's frail voice said from the door. We all turned to look at him and he just shrugged. "I took us to a different place." He explained.
"We're still standing in the same place," I pointed out.
He gave another shrug, "come inside."
Reluctantly, I went inside, followed by the rest of the gang. I had so many questions, Amir's magic was clearly more advanced than mine. I know he was older and therefore more experienced, but I still couldn't help but feel... jealous.
"Don't worry, I will teach you all that I know," he said turning towards me.
"You read minds too?" I asked him.
"No, I read emotions."
I don't know what I was expecting when we got inside the cabin, maybe I was expecting crystal balls, herbs and many relics, but it was just a plain cabin. It had a small kitchen, a lounge with two big couches, no tv and one door that led to what I assumed was the bedroom.
"Take a seat," he gestured towards the couches.
Bea and I reluctantly set down on one couch while the three demons stood behind us, looking at Amir with calculated eyes. When Gedeon told them to look after me, they took it to heart.
"Do you know how I can get Gedeon back?" I asked him.
"Yes, I know, but I would have to teach you a few tricks on how to get in and out of Hell undetected." He explained.
I felt my heart surge with hope at his words, but it died down as fast as it came. "I would need someone to go with me though, and Viljar doesn't want to."
Amir let out a small, frail chuckle. "You don't need anyone to take you there," he gazed at the others. "I'll show you how."
I knew it was all for show; I knew that he was hiding something from me. I wasn't sure what it was yet. Regardless, I nodded in agreement. The thought of getting Gedeon back exciting me to the core.
'I might need to talk to you alone,' came his voice in my head.
We made eye contact, his violet eyes shining with excitement. I nodded my head. "Let's get to it then."
A/N: Shortest chapter ever! Sorry it took so long. I am going back to writing this week, I should update again by the end of the week. Till then, take care!
