Alex's POV:

"Where the fuck do you think you're going, pretty boy?" Jax immediately tenses up when one of the big guys in the suit put his hand on his chest and pushes him back. I know he's already pissed I made him come over here, now this guy is touching him. Fuck. That's all we need is Jax to start fighting.

"We used to be friends of the Murphy's. We just wanted to say what's up." I speak up, knowing if I let Jax speak too much, it will get us thrown out of here or worse.

"Does it look like I give a fuck who you are or who you used to be friends with? Now get the fuck back before I have your ass thrown out of here." The other guy beside him steps forward, ready to throw us out the second we cause trouble. Who the fuck are these guys?

"Woah, man. Calm down," I put my hands up, letting them know I don't mean any harm while taking a step back. Maybe this wasn't a good idea.

"We were-" Jax is interrupted by voices behind the big assholes currently starting trouble with us.

"Is that Alex Kelly?" One of the two Murphy brothers, Daniel, pushes through the two big guys, stepping down a few stairs.

"And shit... Jax Roberts. Well, fuck, it has been a while since we've seen the two of you around." He smiles, holding a glass of dark liquor in his right hand while leaning against the gold railing of the steps to his VIP section.

"Hell yeah. You guys grew up." I look to Lucas Murphy, who turns toward a girl standing in the corner and raises two fingers at her.

"Come on, guys! Join us. We gotta get some drinks in those hands!" The big guys move out of the way, allowing us to walk up the stairs into their VIP section. We sit down on opposite sides of the Murphy brothers. I'm still wondering why the hell they have guards at the club. Jax must be as too because he is still examining the whole scene with a look of intrigue. Oh, great here he goes.

"So, what have the youngest Murphy brothers been up to these past years?" Jax asks while the waitress Lucas signaled, sets down a bottle of expensive bourbon on the table, and two glasses. Damn, I'm pretty sure that's like a $400 bottle of bourbon... Who the hell just buys expensive bottles of liquor like that? Daniel has to be about 23 or 24 years old now. What the hell does he do, he can afford to throw down money in a club like that...?

"Oh, you know, just hustling, making money..." Hustling? What does he mean by that?

"You know, living life." Lucas finishes for Daniel. They both laugh while clinking their glasses together. Damn, they sure are happy. Or that could just be the $400 bourbon.

"Good for you two!" I want to ask them what they mean exactly by hustling, but something in the back of my head tells me not to. Jax being Jax, can't help himself, though.

"If you don't mind me asking, what are you guys doing now? Like for a living?" His questions come out smooth and cool, but as usual, he has his interrogative face put on in need of answers to all the questions, probably flying through his head right now. That's one thing I learned about Jax over the years. He needs to know everything. He is just one of those who feels he needs to be in control of every situation he's in, and it drives him crazy when he isn't.

I look from Jax's face to Daniel's to see him tense a little at his questions and then look to Lucas with an odd look on his face. The looks shared between them would make you think they are having a conversation with each other in their minds. I look back to Jax to see him just as tense.

"Well, it's sort of hard to explain..." Daniel says while scratching the back of his neck, acting like he's unsure what to say. Odd.

"It's basically just like sales work," Lucas speaks up, and Daniel's head whips towards him, and he narrows his eyes at him. Sales work? What's hard to explain about that? I was ready to ask him what exactly they were selling, but that voice again in the back of my head and the looks they were still sharing told me not to. I can't even imagine the million questions Jax wants to use to interrogate both of them right now. If it was anyone else, he could care less, but these were the Murphy brothers. Kylie Murphy's brothers.

I changed the subject, and we all spent a little time going back and forth, talking about the stuff we had been doing in the last couple of years. We told them about our company and coming back here to start up another shop. It was weird seeing them so grown up. Last time we saw Lucas, he was only like thirteen, and now he is drinking in the club with us. The older Murphy brothers, Adam and James, were the ones always suspicious of our relationship with their sister. Which I guess they had every right to be.

----

The four of us had been throwing back drinks for about 30 minutes while talking about all kinds of shit before Daniel spoke up, and she was finally brought up. It was only a matter of time...

"So, you guys staying when Kylie gets here or what?" I can feel Jax's body immediately stiffen at the mention of her name. When she gets here? Oh shit. He is going to kill me for dragging him into this. Neither of us needs this shit.

"She's coming here? Tonight?" Jax speaks, his tone turning very serious and deep, which means he's nervous. He must have sobered up pretty quickly from that announcement. As much as he tries to hide it, he still hasn't got over it-- Over her. As his friend and a fellow victim of the heartbreak, I know the anxiety he must be feeling at the idea of seeing her again. But I have to admit it was also always funny to see the way he gets around her. She's the only person that intimidates Jackson Roberts.

"Well yeah... it's Friday night." Lucas and Daniel look between us both like we are missing something really important here.

"So? What does she like only come to this club or something?" I ask jokingly.

"Well, she does own it." When Daniel says that Jax about chokes on his drink.

"She what??" I look over to him to gauge his reaction. Yep, he is freaking the fuck out right now.

"Yeah, for two years now..." Daniel starts looking around like he's searching for someone. Probably Kylie. Mmmm, Kylie Murphy. It's been a while since I've thought about her. I mean, of course, I think of her every now and then, but not like I used to. She was the only girl I cared about when I was younger. I wasn't the only one, though... I was always sharing her with Jax... It wasn't like a threesome or anything. She just always seemed to want both of our attention and could never decide between the two of us. It was just complicated...And we might be best friends, but there were a few times in high school where we almost let how much we wanted her come between us.

"There are a lot of things you guys don't know about Kylie now." Lucas laughs a little before he's smacked across the back of the head by Daniel.

"Hey, don't be talking about family business." Lucas rolls his eyes at him. Family business?

"What do you mean-" Jax is about to start up his interrogational questioning again before he's interrupted.
