DRIP DROP
Drip drop drip drop
rough cobble grabs my shoes
I trip and splash in small muddy puddles
And rain hits heavy on my head
I pull up my hood
I think I look like a drowned rat,
Drip drop drip drop
I stumble through masses of people
Trying to escape the water
Pushing, shoving
I break free from the crowds
Warm Light pours from windows
Drip drop drip drop
Yelling, laughter
people in shelter
Smells of dinner
Smells of food
Torturing my staring stomach
Drip drop drip drop
Staring at the laughing families
Desperate, cold and hungry
I wish for some love
Just a little piece of love
The rain promises nothing
Drip drop drip drop
Someone tries to shoo me away
He's Yelling,
not the happy yelling of the people eating
He stops?
A small woman leads me inside?
Drip drop drip drop
She says words that flow over my head
But, it's comforting all the same
She gives me a hot brown drink
I sip.
It burns me.
Drip drop drip drop
I find myself in her home
Covered in soft blankets hugging me
Sipping the hot brown drink that likes to burn me.
I can't hear the drip drop of the rain
I hear something else
I can hear laughing
Feel the smiling.
And for once,
It comes from me.
