Hogwarts - 1996

The Gryffindor Tower was only a few more paces away, and Dean Thomas and Seamus Finnigan were walking together, inseparable as usual.

"Hey Dean," Ginny Weasley said flirtatiously, giving a little wave as she sauntered by. Dean's eyes followed the flow of her light red hair all the way down to the way she walked so purposefully. Seamus examined Dean and the way he seemed to glow of green as she walked by.

"Someone has a new snogging partner," Seamus teased.

"Shove off, Seam," Dean shoved him lightly.

Seamus chuckled in effort to hide the jealously that was boiling up in his veins. He'd been contemplating his feelings for YEARS now, and he's come to the difficult conclusion that he's in love with Dean. Something he could never admit to the beautiful boy standing on his left.

"So Seamus, I heard that Lavender has a HUGE thing for Ron," Dean gossiped in Seamus's ear, his breath warm, sending chills down Seamus's spine.

Seamus turned to face Dean. "Dean, that's common knowledge. She hardly makes it a secret."

Dean huffed jokingly, and peered down at rosy cheeked Seamus. "Seamus, why don't you get yourself a girlfriend? I'm sure MANY girls are interested and may even have their eye on you."

Seamus hesitated. "I guess I'm just not interested in them," Seamus said, looking down the staircase to avoid eye contact.

"Well then, who is it you fancy enough to avoid others?"

Seamus shook his head halfheartedly. "Nobody, Dean. Nobody."

The Great Hall - 1996

"So Dean," Ginny started, setting her plate down which caused Seamus to look up.

"Yes, Gin?" Dean gazed up at her, chewing with a slight amused smile on his face.

"Do you want to go to Hogsmeade together this weekend?" inquired Ginny cutely.

Dean glanced over at Seamus who was intently avoiding his gaze. "Seamus and I were going to go together, but that's okay, right Seam?" he looked back over at Ginny. "I'll go with you, Ginny. Seamus, I promise I'll go with you next time, alright?"

Seamus nodded in response, and Dean grinned at that. Ginny motioned for her and Dean to leave, so Dean ruffled blushing Seamus's hair, and exited with Ginny. Seamus finished his dinner in absolute silence.

He got up and meandered over to the courtyard, spotting Draco Malfoy sitting, picking grass as Pansy Parkinson yakked his ear off. Seamus sat down on the opposite side the courtyard, causing Malfoy to look up because he was the only other person there. Malfoy gave a small wave, and Seamus surveyed him, confused. Malfoy looked down and smiled a little bit.

Seamus was perplexed by the odd state in which this usually cold boy was acting, so he held up a small wave.

"Let's go, Draco," Pansy commanded as she grabbed his sleeve.

"One moment," Malfoy pointed his finger at her, and she stormed off. Draco approached Seamus and sat on the sill of a window, resting his feet on the bench Seamus was sitting on. "Hello, Finnigan."

"What are you doing?" Seamus questioned stiffly.

"Forgive me for wanting to figure out why such an odd Gryffindor could even MAKE a face like that one," he pointed at Seamus and took a bite out of the green apple he always seemed to have on hand*
