I slipped into the cantina, seating myself in a booth in the back. Maybe, tonight, I could successfully distract myself. As the pretty waitress handed me my usual drink, I allowed my eyes to scour the room. A skimpy Twi'lek girl here, a spunky Zabrak with oddly long fingernails there..

The usual women bored me. I allowed my eyes to sweep again, with a different filter. A moment later I landed on a handsomeish Chiss man who was balanced on a stool in the far corner, but after a decent look at his face I lost interest. I continued to look, but each being was as underwhelming as the first three.

Another boring night... I thought disdainfully to myself as I perched my chin in my hand. The minutes passed, I found my drink emptied itself quickly, and waved for another one. Bouncing over, the waitress with vibrant orange skin flashed me her best grin. "Same thing for you, Mister...?"

The girl seemed to seek a name, but I simply tilted my head, raising an eyebrow at her. "Same thing. That's all you need to know." My tone came out colder than I had expected it to, and the girl blanched, nodding before she scurried off. Frowning, I threw her a "sorry" but didn't give it much effort.

Just when I had decided I might leave and find another cantina, a group of loud men- Corellians, I could tell- swaggered in through the door, a shortish blonde in the back of them. My interest peaked again- Corellians usually stayed in the middle levels, I never saw them down here in the canopy. Studying them, I crossed one leg over the other and leaned forwards against the table in front of me. One man, in particular, caught my eye. Shortish but slightly muscular, blond hair cut neatly, blue eyes, seemed to be the more sheepish of the three.

Just my type... I thought snidely, sipping down the last of the ice-blue beverage in my hand. As the alcohol coursed through me, I stood, stretching myself out to my full height and moving toward the group of men. As I neared them, their laughter quieted, and one of them coughed. The man closest to me, who assumed to be their leader- strong, well dressed (for a Corellian pilot), confident seeming- turned towards me, flashing me a grin as he extended his hand for me to shake. "Well, hi there. Des Bysko." I looked down at his hand for a moment before I shook it reluctantly.

He certainly hasn't been to the canopy very often. That, or he's got absolutely nothing to hide.

When I didn't say anything, he looked questioningly at me, and I replied. "A pleasure, I'm sure." Holding onto his hand a bit too tightly, I gave them my most disarming smile. It worked- they seemed uncomfortable. Something about this made me feel bad, and I reminded myself of my nighttime mantra.

For now, you are a creature of the canopy. Forget the manners Master has taught you.

They shifted, and Des spoke up again. "Well, good to meet you.. anonymous." He seemed to notice my saber, and he raised an eyebrow. "Jedi, huh? We don't usually see you guys... below the hundreth levels!" He laughed at his own joke, and one of his friends helped tentatively. Tilting my head, I leaned against the counter. "Well. Everyone has to have a little..." I set my gaze on the short blond "fun... now and then." At my subtle comment, the blond blushed, and I mentally high-fived myself.

Bingo.

Des shrugged, nodding. "Guess so. Anyway, this," he gestured to one of his friends who looked similar to him, "Is my brother, Res Bysko." Res nodded to me. Des continued, gesturing now to a tall man behind him with sandy blond hair and strangely green eyes. "This is Callos Eeski. And thi-" the blonde, who hadn't stopped staring at me, interrupted, shouting slightly. "Thalli!" At his outburst, I raised an eyebrow at him, and he blushed again, repeating himself sheepishly. "Thalli Styyggern. God to, uh, meet you." This time I stuck a hand out, and he placed his in mine. I spoke in the most persuasive voice that I could. "Pleasure to meet you, Thalli." I brought his hand to my lips, and he reddened considerably.
