Axolotl

The Axolotl is one of the many lesser known endangered species. Wild axolotls are exclusively found in the swampy remnants of Lake Xochimilco. There are currently 700-1000 known axolotls in the wild. However, they are racing towards extinction due to pollution and human/industrial intrusion into their constantly shrinking habitat. They have also been very negatively affected by the fact that many invasive species of fish have been introduced into the lake in order to provide food safety for the people of Mexico City. These fish eat the Axolotl's eggs and compete with adult axolotls for food. It's believed that if humanity keeps going at same rate as we have for the last 50 years, then the adorable, mystifying axolotl will 100% certainly go extinct within the next 10 years.

Here are some organizations that you can donate to in order to save these

More about the axolotl:

One of the amazing things about the axolotls is the fact that unlike most amphibians, the adults have completely working gills! However, the main surprising thing about this amazing species is the fact that it can not only regenerate lost limbs, but it can also completely regenerate its spinal cord and even its brain and heart!

That's all for now. I'll keep you updated on more about this wonderful species and its fight against extinction. In the mean time, do some research for yourself and let me know if I missed anything. Bye!

Edit: It appears that I did not do enough research into the subject. During a survey and 4 month long search in 2014, the year of the previous survey, 0 axolotls were found. Axolotls were marked as extinct. Although, 2 were later found swimming in the polluted and invasive species filled canals that Lake Xochimilco has been reduced to in recent years, raising them from the classification of extinct. However, it still says that 700-1000 remain in the wild. As such, until another survey or otherwise provide any new information on the population amount of wild axolotls, I will not be changing the population approximation at the top of the page.

Edit: It appears that, for some reason, past me forgot to mention that in version 1

Edit: It appears that, for some reason, past me forgot to mention that in version 1.17 Mojang is adding Axolotls to Minecraft. If you're like me and my brother and either don't know when it's being added, or if you just forgot, don't worry. Although, as far as I know, Mojang hasn't given a specific release date, judging by what Jeb has told us, and by what Google has told me, the update will probably be coming after June 20th and before September 22nd

Edit: It appears that the update isn't being released during Spring, but is instead being released in Summer. I've corrected the error.
