A/N  - I'm just gonna say this now so I don't have to say this for every chapter, I don't own Percy Jackson, if I did, well, let's just say things would have been different! Hope you enjoy this story!

I leaped across the rooftops, narrowly avoiding the claws of the thing chasing me. The thing looked like a girl except for the fact that she had white skin, flaming hair, fangs, a bronze leg and a donkey leg, and red eyes. I knew that she was an empousa, we learned about them in school. The empousa was chasing for what felt like the fiftieth time this week! I skidded to a stop, my sneakers squeaking on the flat roof. I glanced at my surroundings. Two red brick buildings stood beside me so no going there, and there was too big of a gap in front of me to jump. The empousa was closing in. I had to think of something fast. I looked for the nearest thing possible which just happened to be a branch that looked like it would all apart the instant I touched it.

"I got you now, Dabria Cardinal." The empousa hissed. I cocked my head.

"How do you know my name?" The empousa didn't answer, she just lunged at me. I dodged and grabbed the branch, breathing a sigh of relief when it doesn't crumble.

"What's your name anyway?" I asked not expecting an answer. Instead though she pauses, "Kelli and I'm here on orders to kill you!" She charged me, I fumbled with the branch in my hands and then stick it out the most pointed side out. Luckily for me not for her, she was like a bull and charged straight at it, not turning. Her mouth turned into a surprised o before she gets turned into the powdery gold dust. I sigh before leaning against the building. I sit back and stare at the sky, it's blue colors changing into purple and pink. Stars dotted the sky. It was just so beautiful.  I should probably start from the beginning.

I'm Dabria Cardinal, my mom died when I was born and my dad was supposedly supposed to be dead too, so lucky me I was put in an orphanage, I always got adopted out easily. I say always because I got adopted out more than once. I don't know why, but anyone who has ever shown me any sort of emotion has died or disappeared or never shown interest again. Every single one. So now after the fifth person I stayed with died.  I ran, I just ran, ran for what felt like forever. I somehow ended up in Manhattan and I stayed. It's now been three months and today happened to be my 13th birthday. Woohoo, but of course instead of presents, I got a monster attack. I've been getting them more recently now that I'm older, I used to only see them. People started thinking I was crazy, I mean with my jet black hair, ebony skin and sunken eyes, black clothes, combat boots, and necklace - that was the only thing I had from my birth mom - I didn't exactly come off as a princess. I've made my house on top of the roofs. I stayed there, but soon I was thinking of leaving. Oh god, please let tomorrow be better. I think as I lower myself onto a fire escape. I sit there for a while, staring into nothing before my eyes start to droop and fall asleep from exhaustion.

*****Time skip to the morning*****

I woke up to the sound of rustling. I rubbed the sleep from my eyes as I looked around. I noticed a boy, around my age, with black hair, pale skin, and an aviator's jacket, twisting a skull ring on his finger, snooping about in the shadows. He didn't seem to notice me. I waved at him. He wasn't paying attention.

"Hey." He jumped. I smirked. "Why we sneaking around?" I ask.

"None of your business." He responds. I nod, "Reasonable excuse." I'm not one to pry. I know a few things about keeping secrets.

"Actually I do have a question."

"Shoot." He glances at me, then pulls a piece of paper out of his pocket.

"Do you know a Dabria Cardinal?" I open my eyes and hastily stand up. "Yes actually, why?" I try keeping my cool, what does this guy want with me?

"I need to take her somewhere, a camp actually. "  You mean an asylum.  I nod and stand up, glance at the ground that's a good twenty feet from the platform I'm on top of then back at him, then back at the ground. I start putting my legs on the other side of the bars protecting me from falling. Well not doing a very good job is it. I smirk. Then turn towards the boy who was looking at me in confusion, probably thinking, is this lady insane?! There's no way she can make this jump. I would probably be thinking that to except for the fact that I had plenty of practice jumping off buildings. Wow, that sounds bad.

"Thanks for the offer, but bye." I salute quickly with my pointer and middle finger. Position my self perfectly, and jump.
