Where I cause a natural disaster and scare innocent bystanders

"Only you could wear something like this on a quest," said Edgar, eyeing critically my Hawaiian shirt.

"It's not a quest" I replied.

"Either way," he added after a while. "Summer's over."

Edgar was still a mystery. He seemed cold and selfish when you first got to know him. And when you did know him, you saw the side of him he showed most often. Stubborn and defiant. But his trademark was that he could be incredibly annoying because he didn't mind acting like a smart ass.

"I didn't know there was a dress code," I replied. My shirt was light blue with white palms on it. It worked just fine. As a Winter, the colours that brought out my powers were supposed to be white and light blue.

"It's just... Are you taking any of this seriously?" he actually sounded concerned.

"Come on now, you're not being fair," I replied.

"I still don't understand why you think we should ask the help of Luna Torres," Jeff told me, switching topic.

"She can connect to the airwaves which means she probably hears everything. It's known that people in the Circle know a lot more than we do about secrets such as if there's someone who can tell the future."

"Do you mean to go to Cornwall? Now?" Jeff asked.

"Raegan could help us with a portal," I said. "And if you're wondering why we're here, well, I heard Thomas Johnston tracks whomever uses a portal. If we open one in the Human Realm, he's not going to notice."

Here was the beach near the Brighton Pier, where I'd brought all of my friends.

"So, what would you suggest?" Edgar asked. "Standing on the beach and letting Raegan open a portal in front of all those humans?"

I shrugged. "Why not?"

"Let's not give the humans a scare," Jeff suggested.

"I'm sure the humans have seen worse," I commented.

"I agree to disagree."

"If we don't try, we'll never know," I said.

Jeff looked around, and shut up. The beach was full of tourists. Large crowds make both Jeff and I nervous, so I thought I'd do small talk with Edgar.

"How is Brady?" I asked him.

Edgar was the one out of us who knew Brady the best. Brady Doyle was a very powerful Enchanter in his fifties. He also hosted magic shows under the pseudonym Silver McQueen. His shows were considered tacky by Enchanters, and humans thought his magic was just tricks. But he worked in both realms, and had plenty of fans.

But before Brady went back to doing his shows, he'd used his powers as an Enlightener to heal people, and he'd always looked after Edgar's health.

"He's very busy recently," Edgar's expression darkened. "If you ask me, I think he looks sad and he's trying to get more work to get his mind off things. I imagine he still has feelings for his former girlfriend, and manager, but now she's happily married."

I nodded. Living with Vitaly, another person who suffered of unrequited love, probably did little to help Brady.

"So, here goes nothing," I told the others.

Everyone looked at me warily. I was famous for both my theatrics and the failures that came after them.

One time, when we were battling our enemies, I pissed off one of them so much he stabbed me with a sword.

I understood why what I wanted to do sounded like a very bad idea. But then I thought about it, and I had a better solution.

I opened my hands and performed a Mudra, the way Enchanters do when they're casting spells.
