Carmen's POV

'My name is Carmen Jennings,' I tell myself. 'I moved from Britain in the first grade and my friends are with me wherever the road takes us.' It's my first day of high school and I am so freaking scared. I have best friends but they can have their... lets call it a bad hair days. There's also been another thing that's been bothering me. This one boy has been eying me since the first grade. His name is Luke Ryan. Man, I hate that kid. He always tries to act cool and say pick up lines. It's flattering having the coolest guy in school trying to hook up with me. But here's the thing, ever since we met, he has literally been turning my life around. Yes, I have terrible luck. But whenever he is around I have decent luck.

I realize that it's 6 am and my body is not going to fall asleep. "Okay," I say to myself. "I'll get up. But you had better not ruin this first day of school." I slip out of bed, grab my sparkly aqua rope, and go downstairs to make a cup of coffee. As I'm walking downstairs I accidentally trip on my moms stack of romance novels that she is reading. Believe me when I say that it is a lot of books. My mom and dad are in a happy relationship but she is always paranoid that if worse comes to worse that she can rely on those. Yea mom, not gonna happen. Anyway, I tripped over ALL of those books and fell down the rest of the stairs. Which was only like 7 but it still hurt like crazy. I think I'm going to stop at the landing on the stairs, but I don't, so I keep falling down the last 46 steps. When I finally reached the bottom, I landed on my wrist the wrong way. "Ouch!" I say. "Oh my gosh. That hurts like crap!"
I looked at my wrist. Thankfully it didn't look broken. Just badly bruised and maybe a little sprained. I walk into the kitchen and decide in making a nice hot cup of tea. Now just because I'm British doesn't mean I HAVE to like tea. It's not like it's my favorite drink or anything. Just kidding. It is my favorite drink but I absolutely LOVE coffee. And Vanilla Bean coffee? Just marry me!
Anyway while the tea leaves were going through the machine I walked over to the window sill seat where I grabbed my robe and laid down. The machine was like a heartbeat, constant and soothing.
The machine stopped and I got up to put the tea my favorite mug, a baby blue with an image of my mum, my papa and me as a 3 year old. I was wearing my favorite shirt of that time which was a Minnie Mouse shirt that I got from a gift shop back in Britain. I know, Britain has Minnie Mouse? Crazy right? We had taken a trip to the United States and little did I know it at the time but my parents were planning on moving. I poured a decent amount of tea into my mug and sat back down on the window sill. I looked out across our front yard. Now I would say that we were rich rich, like infinite money, but we were doing pretty decent money wise. My father had bought this mansion 7 years ago and it still looks the same as it did when we bought it. The outside, that is. The inside looks like it has been lived in since 1865.
I subconsciously let my mind drift away. I thought about the first year I came here, I was lonely and shy, also a butt kisser. Then I thought back to my first day in Elementary school. Luke had been an absolute class clown but on the other hand I was stuck up. Then, right after I let my mind drift, my bad luck started. I spilled my cup of tea on me. "Great! Just great!" I hope today is better than last year.
