I fall back after the sudden force of her cold hands pushing onto my delicate shoulders. I reach out and grab her pearl necklace to catch myself, breaking it before the fall. The back of my head is the first thing to thud onto one of the steps of the stairs leading down into the basement. Inertia carries the lower half of my body over me, causing my body to do a backwards somersault.
Thud.
A small cry from my throat escapes with the rest of the air in my lungs. I double over the end steps with all the oxygen leaking from my lungs.
Thud.
I lay at the bottom of the steps, wincing in pain and trying to catch my breath. A few beads from her necklaces bounce down the stairs, rolling next to me. The dim basement walls spin around me, nausea coming to. My vision is completely distorted from the previous blows that came to my head. My body throbbed in pain, feeling nearly paralyzed. The creaking of my rib cage filled my ears with every breath I took. The sound of her horrific laughter echoed and bounced around the room.
Her figure loomed in the door way, giving her a god like presence. Truly the opposite of her. Just a black silhouette standing in the light from the room above, only letting her evil grin be distinctly the only thing visible on her face. Her hair pulled back into a tight bun and her business attire with a professional skirt with low heels.
Her hand disappeared to the side of the door frame and reappeared to only throwing something crystal like. The blur comes to focus before it shattered a few inches to the right of my head, broken pieces of the pint glass flying into my hair and against my face. The sound was almost deafening, a loud ringing shot through my ear. My attempt to make an effort to sit up backfired. My body ached with pain, leaving me there to lay in agony, trying to process everything that just happened during a short period of time.
"Pathetic," she says, spitting pure disgust. She slowly made her way down with her heels clicking under each step she took towards me.
Click.
Click.
Her body grew closer, giving me a shorter time to react.
Click.
I tried to throw the left over beads I had still clutched in my hand. They fell short and bounced back to roll and lay around me.
Click.
I winced and rolled over, starting to crawl to the farthest wall possible, collecting all the left over energy in my body to get away from her. The palms of my hands and knees picked up pieces of broken shards of glass and carried it in me. The sound of my palms and knees hitting the ground made low nearly silent thuds. I nearly tripped over my own hands trying to ease the pressure. I reach my left arm out for the chair leg, my fingers only being inches away from grasping it.
Click.
My finger tips only grazed the smooth wood finish of the only chair before I was pulled towards her by right my leg, feeling her nails dig into the small amount of flesh around my ankle. A yelp escaped from behind my lips from suddenly being jerked back.
"I don't understand why you don't want to be around me," she pulled me by my hair and started dragging me. "I don't understand why you're like this. Awful!" she says as drags me across the floor. I dug my nails into the cement, being my only thing to try to grab and slow her down. My nails broke and chipped off under the pressure and friction. The glass in my knees and hands push harder into my skin, causing a new warmth of blood to rush out, leaving a trail. She stops to open a latch before dragging me into the small basement closet. There's nothing in there but a cracked plate with dried pieces of food and a broken light bulb hanging from a wire on the ceiling.
"I don't understand why you make me have to do this to you," she slams the closet door and total darkness surrounds me except for the small slit under the door, big enough for the plate, shining close to my feet. Without hesitation, I grip my hands, feeling the throbbing pain of the glass in my palms and pound my fists on the door, sobbing my apologizes. Her refusal and then cackling laughter was the last I heard of her vocally.
Click.
Click.
Click.
Then the lights went out and the basement door slammed shut. The silent darkness surrounded me. I pushed myself back into one of the corners and brought my legs up to my chest. All the pain enveloped in my body suddenly pained all into one.
I buried my face into my blood soaked glass covered knees and release the warm flowing rivers from my eyes . . .
