Avermans POV:
I stood at the field with coach Bombay waiting for Lillies game to start. "why exactly are we watching a soccer player? we are looking for hockey players" Bombay asked me. I smirked "just wait and see". I have been secretly coming to Lillies games to see how she played. After watching how aggressive she was on the field I knew she would be perfect for the team. The ref blew his whistle starting the game as the girl in the number two jersey managed to make her way through the entire other team and score a goal. "see" I say as I turn to Coach Bombay. "Wow she can score a goal. But this is soccer it's completely different than hockey". Right as he said that a girl slightly tapped Lillie. I noticed the anger build up in her and she managed to sprint back and completely deck the girl to the ground. "She may not be a hockey player but you can see that she is fast and very aggressive". Bombay smirked "you know your right Averman she would be good for our team". I tried not to show my excitement but the thought of playing a sport with my best friend seemed really amazing. After the game Lillie walked over to me. "What are you doing here Averman how come you didn't tell me you were coming" she said to me. "just wait and you will see" I replied. Just then Bombay walks up to Lillie. "you're really good out there" he says. "Thanks" Lillie replies confused on who this man is. "I'm Coach Bombay of the US hockey team. I was wondering if you would like to join the team. With your aggression and speed we could really use you on the rink. " he said to her. I noticed her stand there in shock.
Lillies POV
Did I just get asked to join a hockey team. "I haven't skated in a while I don't think I will be that good" I replied lying. "What are you talking about. She's an amazing skater we skate at the pond by our houses" Averman said while standing next to me. I quickly elbowed him in the side glaring at him for snitching. He just shrugged it off and kept his focus on the coach. "Look. you don't have to say yes but please think about it. we could really use someone like you on the team" Bombay said before he turned around and left. Which left just me and Averman. "please just think about it. I don't want to hear any excuses. I just want to play with my best friend" Averman said before he walked off
Later That night
my head was filled with the thought of me playing hockey. I would, but soccer really made me feel connected to my mom. and i was good. After dinner my dad asked me to go down into the basement to get him something he needed for work. As I was walking down I bumped into a box that spilled over revealing my mom in the same #2 jersey except this time it was for hockey. I looked at the pictures of her playing and realized that she seemed happier playing hockey then when she was playing soccer. Maybe I would like it too.
The next day
Coach Bombay gave me his card and details of where they were practicing we're just in case I decided I wanted to join. I already had hockey equipment from when my older brother decided he was going to play around my age before quitting a few weeks in. I made sure it fit before putting it into a bag and having my dad drive me to the rink. I walked into Bombay's office and before he even noticed me I managed to say "I'm in". Bombay smiled and led me to the locker room. "the rest of the team is already out there but you and the new recruits are going to get an introduction. this can also be a surprise to Averman. I'm sure he will be excited to see you" Bombay said before leaving the locker room to go out into the ice.
